Basic Seed production (season 2020/2021)
Provision, production, and access to high-quality seed through seed multiplication of early generation, newly released, and demand-driven heat tolerant wheat varieties.
Strong public-private partnerships (PPP) were established to support the engagement of private and public seed companies in the production and delivery of basic and certified seeds. The PPP was established with more than ten private and public seed producers.
More than 32 tons of basic seeds of the most popular and newly released varieties were provided to a number of public and private seed producers in season 2020/2021 for certified seed production at different locations.
More than 390 tons of pre-basic and basic seeds were produced in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 through direct production by the project or in partnership with other seed producers.
About 15 tons of seeds of some popular varieties were provided to a number of pioneer farmers for community-based seed multiplication (CBSM). More than 175 tons of informal seeds were produced.
Basic and Certified Seed Production (Season 2021/2022)
Basic and certified seed production plans were implemented with the involvement of partners from both private and public seed producers.
More than 50 tons of basic seeds of the most popular and newly released varieties were provided to a number of public and private seed producers in season 2021/2022 for certified seed production at different locations.
A total of 524 tons of pre-basic and basic seeds of popular and newly released wheat varieties were produced either through direct contracts with farmers or partnerships with seed producers.
More than 4880 tons of certified seeds of popular and newly released wheat varieties were produced in 2021/2022 mainly through PPP.
About 21 tons of seeds of some popular varieties were provided to a number of pioneer farmers for community-based seed multiplication (CBSM). More than 250 tons of informal seeds were produced.
