The long-term goal of the project is to increase wheat production and productivity in Sudan and Sub-Saharan Africa to realize self-sufficiency and sustainable food security through the generation of climate change resilient wheat germplasm and innovations. The project will establish an advanced pre-breeding facility in Sudan to serve all Sub-Saharan Africa countries.
The main implementing agencies are Tottori University, Japan, and Agricultural Research Corporation, Sudan. In addition, Utsunomiya University, Japan, and Sudan Meteorological Authority are partners.
The project includes five research groups that form its main objectives and outcomes. It is operating in the main wheat production areas in Sudan (Northern state, River Nile state, Gezira State, Kassala State, and White Nile State).
