1 occupational / Elective Credit

Intro to Health Careers/Fitness Tech is a general introductory course in health sciences that includes an overview and exploration of a variety of allied health care careers in each of the five Health Care Career Pathways (Therapeutic Services, Diagnostic Services, Support Services, Health Informatics, and Biotechnology Research & Development).

This course is designed to create an awareness of career possibilities in health care and inform students of the educational options available for health science. For each career they study, students examine the main tasks and challenges of professionals in that career, the treatments they administer, and the interaction those professionals have with other professionals. Instruction includes 21st Century Skills, employability skills, beginning anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical ethics, diseases, disorders, nutrition, and fitness program development & adherence.

The course prepares students for the Medical Anatomy/Physiology course and/or for a variety of health science programs. Where possible, students do authentic hands-on work that a professional would do. This course follows American Council on Exercise's Certified Personal Trainer (ACE-CPT) curriculum.
