Tonawanda/Grand Island Teacher Center
Welcome to your Tonawanda/Grand Island Teacher Center
HELLO FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome back teachers! We hope your year has started out on a great note! To keep you motivated and at the top of your game, the Teacher Center will be offering a number of amazing opportunities over the school year. Courses for the fall are currently full but watch for a new catalog for the winter/spring in November. In the meantime, the NYS Teacher Center Network has some free learning opportunities available. You can view their entire catalog here (Frontline) or visit their website.
And as always, we offer a variety of special services including poster making, laminating, and die cuts. Our office, located at Kaegebein Elementary, will be open on the following Tuesdays from 4-6pm or by appointment (10/17, 11/14, 12/12, 1/16, 2/13, 3/12, 4/16, 5/14 and 6/11). Please use this form if ordering services (posters or lamination) via email. All services are FREE of charge!
If there are any other programs or services that may help you, please do not hesitate to contact me or your Policy Board representative. We are here for you!
Thank you for supporting NYS Teacher Centers and lifelong learning!

ABOUT THE TONAWANDA/GRAND ISLAND CENTER
The Tonawanda/Grand Island Teacher Center, TGITC, services the Grand Island and City of Tonawanda School Districts. Grand Island is a suburban district and Tonawanda is a small city district both of whom report demographic changes with an increased number of English Language Learners (ELL), specifically students who speak Arabic as their native language. Our Center serves approximately 550 teachers, teacher aides and administrators. There are approximately 5,800 students.
OUR MISSION
The mission of the Center is to improve the education of students through on-going preparation of teachers, staff and parents. Workshop participants will continue to explore research-based teaching methods and professional skills and knowledge based on the New York Learning Standards. Workshops, seminars, professional development projects, study groups and conferences are the methods used to deliver these services to our constituents.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR NYSED TEACH REGISTRATION
Hi all. Some of you may be approaching your 5-year re-registration period for the NYSED TEACH system. I have attached a document which explains what should happen as you approach your deadline to re-register. Basically, you will receive an email from NYSED to remind you to re-register and attest to your 100 CTLE hours. However, you should confirm that TEACH has your current email as they will send it to the email they have on file. Please refer to the document for complete details. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at cherman@onboces.org.
