One major award (Letter Jacket) is provided by Tomball ISD for each student that meets the lettering requirements for a given organization. Additional letters may be earned in other organizations upon completion of their lettering requirements.
To receive an award for choir, students must:
Be members in good standing and participate in required performances.
Demonstrate a positive attitude.
Maintain a satisfactory citizenship/conduct and academic average.
At the discretion or directors and/or THS administration, students may be excluded from receiving a letterjacket based on the following:
Placement in DAEP
Chronic academic ineligibility
Chronic attendance issues
Other disciplinary concerns
To receive a major award, students must earn 24 points by the following methods. Point total must include a minimum of 2 service points. The points are listed in Schoology, but it is up to the students to verify them and let Mrs. Brewer or Mr. Michaelis know when they have reached 24 points.
Perform a solo at UIL Solo and Ensemble contest (1pt).
Perform an ensemble at UIL Solo and Ensemble (1pt).
Receive a first division rating on a Class I solo at UIL region contest (2pts).
Receive a first division rating on an ensemble or Class II or III solo at UIL region contest (1pt)
Receive a first division rating for an ensemble at UIL Concert and Sight reading contest (1pt)
Non Competitive Events:
Volunteer with Flags Across Tomball by both setting out and picking up flags. (1pt) per holiday. Flags will only count for Letter Jackets OR Spring Trip fundraising, never both.
Perform with their particular ensemble at required school concerts outside of the school day (1pt) per concert.
Service Points are earned by volunteering to help set-up or take-down for Patriotic halftime Show, Fine Arts Festival, hosting events, organizing library, uniform room, or other projects after school.
Seniors may receive a major award if they have been in choir for 4 years, have participated in all required performances and have a point total of 18 at the end of their Junior year. They may not have a choir grade lower than an 80 or a conduct grade lower than satisfactory.
Serving as a THS Choir officer (2pts per year served).
Students may receive one school-purchased award during their high school career. If a student becomes eligible for an additional award with a different organization, an epaulet will be made available for the student to indicate that he/she has achieved this recognition more than once.
