6th grade is the BEST year to get started in band, so you made a great choice! We are looking forward to getting to know you over the next several years, and can't wait to get started. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to a band director (information listed below). We are always happy to help. Finally, we hope you are as excited as the band directors are about being part of the Wildcat Band!
Here are 3 important things to do before next school year:
Get your instrument and supplies. See "Instrument Supply Lists" below for detailed information about your specific instrument. If you’re ordering from a local music store, be sure you order by July 15th to ensure that it can be delivered to NIS before school starts! Music store recommendations are included on the supply list as well.
Stay up to date on all things Wildcat Band by downloading the Google Classroom app and joining the Northpointe Band 2023-2024 class using the code yb3gtts.
Sign up for our PRIVATE LESSONS program. You might even be able to get started playing your instrument over the summer!
We are lucky to have an incredible band staff from 6th grade through high school. We even have Willow Wood Junior High teachers who come over and teach beginning band students at Northpointe every day. The Tomball Memorial Band Staff also comes to our beginner classes frequently. You will get to know the whole band staff well, and we all look forward to having you in our program for years to come!

Band Every Day
In 6th grade, your band class will be part of your daily schedule. You will meet in like-instrument classes (IE: all flutes together, all trombones together, etc.). This allows us to teach the basics of each instrument and helps ensure that you will leave 6th grade band prepared to be a part of the Willow Wood Band program. In the beginning, we will work on embouchure (how the face looks) and basic tone production, along with counting rhythm and music literacy. It is our goal that every student will be able to make a characteristic sound on their instrument and be able to read music proficiently by the time they leave 6th grade.
Performances
Throughout the year, we have several performance opportunities. Our first concert will actually be more of an "informance" to showcase what band class looks like every day. Then, in December we will perform a more traditional holiday concert and perform carols around the school. We also have concerts in February and in May. For all concerts, band students will wear their concert uniform which includes the band t-shirt and blue jeans.
Social Events & Trips
We do our best to provide several opportunities for band students to get together outside of the school day and celebrate their hard work in the classroom. We typically have one or two social events each semester, which have included things like dessert socials, an Altitude jumping party, and a trip to Typhoon Texas. No matter where we are, the Wildcat Band is always have a BLAST!
