GUEST SPEAKERS

The Business Department at Tolland High School has worked hard to cultivate and maintain relationships with local business professionals in a variety of business related fields. Our guest speakers are passionate about their fields and engage our students, possibly even piquing their interest in a particular industry or company. They often share their perspectives on what the world of business is like, their passion for what they do, provide the opportunity for our students to network and make connections, and they offer their well-earned words of advice. They serve as great role models, and the students can often imagine themselves in related positions in the not-so-distant future.

COMPETITIONS/

SPECIAL EVENTS

Tolland High School is fortunate to have two business related clgroups that engage students and foster their passion for real life learning. DECA is a global career and technical student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Weekly meetings prepare students to be academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible , and experienced leaders. Over the past 10 years at Tolland High School, DECA has participated in and has seen great success at both state and national competitions. Many of our DECA students have leadership positions at the school and state level and participate in leadership conferences annually.

The Student Managed Investement Fund (SMIF) club students are part of the Young Investor Society (YIS) whose mission is to prepare the next generation of students to be outstanding investors – investors in companies, investors in their communities, and investors in themselves. At weekly meetings, the SMIF student leaders provide members with hands-on experience in stock research and valuation techniques used in the industry. SMIF students have seen great success at the YIS state stock pitch competition in its first 2 years as a club.

Both DECA and SMIF consistently prove themselves as an effective way to enhance students’ hard and soft skills outside of the classroom, enabling them to achieve higher levels of success. Both clubs are at the forefront of assisting in the professional, educational, and social development of students interested in business.
