Tohoku University becomes Japan's first
'University for International Research Excellence'
Tohoku University is one of Japan’s leading universities for education and research. It is continually increasing its international presence, partnering with top institutions worldwide and pushing for new discoveries and collaborations.
In November 2024, it was officially accredited as Japan's first ‘University for International Research Excellence’ and will receive extra funds from a 10 trillion JPY investment.
As Tohoku University enters this exciting new chapter, it has begun to implement a plan to reform its academic and research structure. This plan includes increasing its international students, researchers, faculty, and administrative staff.
