“I wish I had lived more authentically.”
This is said to be the regret most people express on their deathbed.
This class is for those who wish to explore “what authenticity means” and “who they truly are.” I will introduce theories and methods I have researched and practiced over the past 15 years, confirming their effectiveness.
In most conventional classes, the expectation is to understand established knowledge and satisfy intellectual curiosity. However, what I will discuss here includes concepts that cannot be called universally established knowledge, as they are difficult to verify objectively. On the other hand, everything can be directly verified by you through your own practice. This class aims to go beyond intellectual understanding. I expect you to actually try the methods introduced in class, see and feel the results for yourself, verify their truth, and gain genuine conviction. Then, I hope you will apply them in your daily life to live more authentically.
The course covers areas related to Maslow's “Hierarchy of Needs,” Jung's “Types,” and Zen and mindfulness for deeper self-knowledge.
This course aims to help you understand your natural self—not your strengths or weaknesses, not good or bad, and not likes or dislikes. The path to knowing such a self is challenging, but we hope you will personally experience that what you gain is also wonderful.
Week 1: “What is Self-Understanding?”
We will learn the definition of self-understanding as it pertains to this course, its relationship to related terms like self-actualization and self-awareness, and practice methods to cultivate self-understanding.
Week 2: “Understanding Your Personality”
Based on Jung's psychological type theory, we will explore our personalities from a cognitive perspective. Specifically, we will experience and gain a deeper understanding of self by adopting a perspective on personality that differs from the conventional view.
Week 3: “Understanding Your Personality in Detail”
We continue advancing self-understanding from the cognitive perspective. Through exercises, you will discover which cognitive function you rely on most and which remains least conscious.
Week 4: “Beyond Self-Actualization”
We explore what people seek beyond Maslow's self-actualization and how they pursue it. Through practice, participants experience mindfulness meditation techniques and methods of concentration and observation designed to explore the deeper, usually unseen workings of the mind.
