ADB-JSP, financed by the Government of Japan and organized by the Asian Development Bank, aims to provide an opportunity to the citizens of ADB's developing member countries to pursue postgraduate studies.

2. Eligibility
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria set by the Asian Development Bank (ADB-JSP) and pass the Master's entrance examination for the International Post-Graduate Program in Human Security (enrollment date: October 2026) in either “Human Security and Disaster Risk Reduction” or “Human Security and Environment” will qualify for the ADB-JSP Scholarship allocation. For details on the entrance examination and specific requirements, please see below.

・ Degrees awarded upon completion:
Master’s degrees will be conferred with the title of “Master of Interdisciplinary Studies” or “Master of Disaster Science” or “Master of Environmental Studies”.
3. Application procedures
Step 1
Check your eligibility set by ADB-JSP

To search for faculty members at Graduate School of Environmental Studies Tohoku University (GSES) who offer guidance, please check the website below.

Step 3
Upload application materials for GSES to a designated URL by January 20.
You also need to complete the online application (TAO) by the same deadline. For more, read the "Guidance for the Entrance Examination"(PDF) linked in "4. How to apply for GSES".
Without those two submissions, your application will be invalid.
Step 4
Results of the entrance examination will be posted on the website (https://www.kankyo.tohoku.ac.jp) of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at approximately 17:00 (Japan time) on March 10, 2026.
The acceptance letter will also be sent to successful applicants via TAO after the online announcement.
※Completion of the application form or admission by GSES does not mean that you have been accepted for a scholarship; accordingly you should not take any action with respect to your current employment or otherwise, until you have been informed by GSES that you have been awarded a scholarship

ADB-JSP notifies us of the selection result (End of May)

Procedures on admission and immigration (May to September)
Step 7
Enter Japan with a student visa and enroll in GSES (late September) . The autumn semester starts on October 1

📜Guideline for 2026 October Enrollment
Designated forms(Applicants for the ADB-JSP must submit the following forms in addition to the application documents listed in the application guidelines above.)
1.📜ADB–JSP Information Sheet(PDF)
2. Copy of Passport
3. Copy of Official Diploma (undergraduate)
4. Certificate of Employment and Compensation issued by the company (with company’s letterhead/logo and signed by authorize signatory). The certificate must state the following details:
a. Start and end date of employment;
Example:
1. January 2016 to December 2017
2. January 2016 to Present (if currently working/connected to the company)
(Note: if the present job is less than 2 years, submit also the certificate of employment from the previous company).
b. Monthly or Annual Income
Notes:
(i) if in local currency, fill-out and submit the income conversation to USD form provided by ADB-JSP)
(ii) Note: Computer-generated proof of income without the signature of the authorized personnel is not acceptable
5. Certificate of Family Income issued by the company (with company’s letterhead/logo):
a. Parents’ Annual/Monthly Income if applicant is single;
b. Spouse’s Annual/Monthly Income if applicant is married
(Note: if in local currency, fill-out and submit the 📜income conversation to USD form provided by ADB-JSP)
c. If status is unemployed, retired or deceased, an authenticated supporting document must be submitted (e.g. issued by the local government)
(Note: Computer-generated proof of income without the signature of the authorized personnel is not acceptable.)
