Learning in JROTC goes far beyond a textbook. As a cadet-led program, students take on real responsibility and face challenges that build leadership, confidence, and teamwork. The core goal of JROTC is to help cadets grow—both as leaders and as individuals. This program is dedicated to developing each student’s character, skills, and potential for success.
Cadet Lieutenant Colleen Hammarsten supported the Todd County Chamber dinner. JROTC Cadets conduct community service as part of their curriculum.
TCMS Cadets learn drill and ceremony (DNC) rifle drills from TCCHS cadets. TCCHS cadets mentor TCMS cadets throughout the school year.
JROTC is a class taken during the school day, but its impact extends far beyond the classroom. Cadets explore subjects like history, government, technology awareness, and current events. Most importantly, JROTC focuses on building leadership, college readiness, and career skills—including study strategies, test-taking techniques, and tools that help students succeed in their future goals.
Beyond our teams and extracurriculars, JROTC offers a wide range of hands-on activities right in the classroom. Cadets experience everything from marksmanship training, archery, drones, critical thinking challenges, giving them real-world skills and unforgettable experiences.

Established by Congress in 1916, Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (Army J.R.O.T.C.) has demonstrated over the decades that the program works. JROTC cadets typically graduate at higher levels than the school as a whole. Principals, parents, and former cadets consistently endorse the positive impact JROTC has on the school, the community, and the cadets themselves.

JROTC is an elective that prepares students for life, not the military. JROTC combines classroom instruction with extracurricular activities to increase students' awareness of the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizenship. The program also builds life skills and provides leadership opportunities to the cadets by allowing them to be in leadership positions.
