I wanted to highlight for my parents "Self Regulation." This is one of the main components of the Full Day Kindergarten Program and something we are learning about on a regular basis. Who knows, maybe you will find strategies here that will help yourself regulate better.
Self-regulation is the process that your child’s brain goes through that gives them the ability to control their behaviours and emotions in response to a particular situation. It is having the skills to calm themselves down and adjust to a change in their environment or expectations and how to handle frustrations without outburst (i.e. learning from home, not seeing peers and extended family)
Self-regulation is a foundational skill for early childhood; this is why it is a keep component of the Full Day Kindergarten Program. If we give children strategies to stay calm in stressful situations, they develop strong habits that they can apply in the future. It is important to remember that there is not one single event that will magically make your child self-regulation skills. All children develop at different rates, this includes their ability to self-control. Building your child's “toolkit” takes time and understanding.
