Coimbatore also known as Kovai is the second largest city and urban agglomeration in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, after Chennai. The city is located on the banks of the Noyyal River surrounded by the western Ghats. The rich black soil of the region has contributed to Coimbatore's flourishing agricultural industry and, it is in fact, the successful growth of cotton has served as a foundation for the establishment of its famous textile industry. Due to profound role as an industrial hub and multi-faceted business endeavors, Coimbatore is referred popularly as “Manchester of South India” and "Detroit of India". Coimbatore is the fourth largest metropolis in India. The city is also known for it's educational institutions. The city also houses research institutes like Central Institute for Cotton Research, Sugarcane Breeding Institute and Institute for Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), a century old premier institute providing Higher Education in Agriculture. TNAU had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India as early as 1868 which was later relocated at Coimbatore during 1906. In 1920, the college was affiliated to the University of Madras with the introduction of a three-year degree programme. Till 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore was the only institute for agricultural education for the whole of South India. In 1958, it was recognized as a Postgraduate Centre for offering Masters and Doctoral degrees. It is a non-profit public higher education institution. TNAU has the pride of being the first State Agricultural University (SAU) to be accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Recognizing the merits, the ICAR awarded The Best Institution and The Best Performing University to this institute. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2023 of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GOI ranked TNAU as the fifth among the State Agricultural Universities in India. Moreover, TNAU figured 68th and 44th place in 'Overall' and 'Universities' categories, respectively and Ranked 105th in QS-BRICS. The ICAR has accredited Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore for a period of five years i.e. up to 31 March 2023. 

Postgraduate Education in Agriculture was started in 1933-34 when the University of Madras recognized the Agricultural College, Coimbatore as a centre for M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Postgraduate study in TNAU is a very special experience. The courses are offered in the university campus and in its constituent colleges. The students on completion of the course requirements have the opportunity to take up their research in any institute / industry worldwide. As an established research-intensive university, TNAU has excellent link with reputed national and international institutes for student exchange programme. School of Postgraduate Studies offers Masters programs, M.Sc.(Ag.) / M.Tech.(Ag.) in 33 disciplines and Doctoral programs in 28 disciplines. Students from all over India and overseas seek admission at this university. 

AGSC-TNAU offers a stimulating venue for student research exchange and gives student the opportunity to broaden their social and scientific network. This scientific program includes a variety of student research from all over India and overseas, which will be presented in poster, oral or plenary form to an international and professional audience.

The Agricultural Graduate Student Conference (AGSC), first of its kind in India, is a two day event, will be held in Actual Mode at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore on August 22 & 23, 2023.
