Brief

The corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has placed an enormous burden on healthcare systems across the globe and has disrupted medical education at all levels. COVID-19 has posed significant challenges for graduate medical education (GME) across all specialties. These challenges are more palpable in the more “hands-on” specialties such as Anesthesiology, where most of the learning takes place at the bedside. In this lecture, we critically analyze the specific challenges faced by anesthesia trainees during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also examine the potential impact on their education, training and well-being during the current crisis and explore potential resources and strategies to help them navigate this demanding situation with an eye on the future.
