About Mr. Carpenter

Mr. Carpenter is a 2014 graduate of Western Carolina University, where he was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, and was awarded his Bachelor of Science in Music Education and his Bachelor of Arts in Music degrees. While at Western, Mr. Carpenter was a member of many of the ensembles at the school, including the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Electric Soul, and the award winning Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.

Mr. Carpenter is also an accomplished trumpet player, and has been accepted to audition for many prestigious professional ensembles, including the United States Navy Band located in Washington, D.C. His principal teachers include Dr. P. Bradley Ulrich (Western Carolina University, Asheville Symphony Orchestra), Dr. Mark Dulin (Akron Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Winthrop University, University of Akron), John Almeida (retired, University of Central Florida), Anita Cirba (Principal Trumpet, Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestra, Principal Trumpet, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra), Larry Black (retired, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Western Carolina University), and Tim Carpenter (M. Ed, University of South Carolina). He is a section player and substitute for many jazz and commercial ensembles in the Triangle area.

He started as an elementary school music teacher in Charlotte, NC, and most recently was a middle and high school band director in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Carpenter is professionally affiliated with the National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the North Carolina Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national fraternity for men in music.

He is excited to be teaching at Triangle Math and Science Academy, and can't wait to share his love of music with all students!
