Micaela Rubalcava, full-time professor of education since 1999, has a Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), an MA in education from Stanford University, a BA with Honors from UCB, and two single subject teaching credentials - social science and art. Rubalcava is faculty advisor for La Raza Student Club. She is the TMCC Campus Connections Advocate. She is the recipient of the 2022 Distinguished Faculty Excellence in Teaching award. She uses big picture backwards design to shape core curriculum with cultural arts, mindfulness, and environmental education. She teaches to transform, facilitating student-centered activities and real-world experiences aligned with national standards. Rubalcava teaches: EDU 110, EDU 201, EDU 202, EDU 203: EDU 206, EDU 207, EDU 208, and EPY 101. Winner of the 2019 Regent’s Award for Creative Activities, Rubalcava studied in Chile with the Fulbright-Hays program in 2017, bringing a global perspective to her work. Rubalcava leads F.R.E.E. - Faculty for Radical Empowerment and Enlightenment – a campus-wide interdisciplinary learning community for sensory education since 2003.
