Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to 3rd grade! Third grade is an exciting time as children come upon new adventures in learning.

This is a year of important transitions, as well as gaining new skills. I hope to make your child’s learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning.

So many things happen in Third Grade! In fact, this year will be full of important transitions. It is tremendously important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child’s self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our third grade.

Here are some ways you can help: Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work! Read to and with your child every day, if possible. The more your child is exposed to language, the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills in reading and writing in the classroom.

I am looking forward to working with your child this year, and helping him/her to achieve his/her full potential.

Parent/Teacher Communication

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through emails, telephone calls, progress reports and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call me at 443-257-3652 after 7 am or before 6 pm, or e-mail me at amcdaniel@tlsonline.org.

Daily homework folder and planner

  • There will be a daily folder sent home each day. Any papers placed on the left side of the opened folder should be “kept at home and any papers on the right side should be returned to me ".

  • Planners will be filled daily with important reminders, homework, tests, projects and up coming events. Please take the time everyday to review your child’s planner and initial it. Also, planners are a great way to communicate with each other, so feel free to write me a little note as needed.

  • I will also give updates periodically on behavior.

Homework is given on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week (sometimes on the weekend for test reviews or projects). This is a great time for you as a parent/guardian to go over important skills with your child.

Homework should be returned in the folder the following day. Please take time daily to take out any pages from the "Keep" side (left) of the folder. This will help keep you and your child organized.

Again, I look forward to teaching your child and working with you to help your child achieve their fullest potential. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Mrs. McDaniel
