4TH GRADE WEEKLY NEWSLETTERS
4TH GRADE WEEKLY NEWSLETTERS
Week 2: Monday 8/31 to Friday 9/4
Good Afternoon,
I hope you had a great weekend! It was wonderful to see you at Back to School Night last week. For those who weren't able to attend, I will link the online presentation that covers the information as a brief overview of the year to our class website!
Upcoming:
Tuesday 9/1 - Topic 1 Math test
Thursday - Presentation from Mrs. Pao in class (school counselor)
Friday - Spelling test, Bible memory test, Language Arts weekly assessment
Here's a brief overview of what academics are looking like right now:
Last week, we introduced planning and beginning an informational essay; this week students will be finding details from two sources to write about Chipmunks.
Our Topic 1 Math test is tomorrow - students have review problems as homework. We will begin Topic 2 on Wednesday.
In Social Studies we have been focusing on longitude, latitude, and locations on earth.
This unit of science is focusing on energy! Students worked in groups to complete an experiment last week and will do so again this week.
A big focus our group is working on is actively listening during instruction. This includes my class as well as enrichment classes. Any encouragement and conversation about the right steps to take at school are greatly valued. Self reflection is a great tool for growth!
I love hearing the creativity this class has and hope to continue to expand that.
*Please be sure your student has their planner and grey homework folder to bring to school every day!*

Week 1: Monday 8/24 to Friday 8/28
Good Afternoon!
I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend and some good rest getting back into the routine of school. On Mondays I will send out weekly email updates with the spelling words, homework information, and any important dates. These email updates will also be posted to the classroom page on the TLCS website.
Back to School Night is this Thursday (8/27). There are two sessions you can choose from to join: 6:00pm - 6:30pm or 6:45pm - 7:15pm. Here I will give an overview of our year, expectations, grading system, and other important details.
Grey homework folders and planners are items that will go home and come back to school daily. These will list homework assignments, spelling words, and bible memory verse for the week. Students will choose from a list of spelling practice activities to complete each night, complete a math homework page, and read for at least twenty minutes each night.
*If students choose a spelling practice that can be written on paper turned in, they do not need a parent signature on their spelling log. However, if they choose to do "finger tracing," for example, then an adult will need to sign the log for confirmation. (See blue spelling homework idea page in the back of their grey folder.) Spelling tests are on Fridays.
Students will turn in a weekly reading summary on Friday that includes the page numbers they read through the week.
Lastly, Bible memory verses for the week are written in their planner, included on their spelling log page, and will be practiced in class. Memory verse tests are on Fridays.
This is a large overview of what to expect weekly! (It's a lot; I will go over each more in detail on Thursday and happily answer any questions.)
This class has been a joy and I am so excited for what is to come. Students have been working hard these first few days completing our beginning of year assessments in language arts and math. If you have any questions feel free to reach out, otherwise, I will see you on Thursday!

Classroom Theme Verse:
A verse that I have been praying will be evident in and out of the classroom with these 4th graders is Matthew 5:14-16:
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
