Happy November! This month holds lots of exciting activities.
First, students will come home with their Science Fair packet on Friday. This must be returned with a project proposal by next Wednesday 11/12. Coming up with an appropriate question can be half the battle. Try to avoid simple questions that can be answered through a Google search such as: Which paper towel holds the most liquid? Also, remember that this experiment must be objectively measured.
This week, we will finish Esperanza Rising and have a "produce party" on Friday. Students can bring in raw produce from the book to enjoy, or make a dish using the produce we read about. Here are the options you can work with: Papayas, Figs, Guavas, Cantaloupes, Onions, Almonds, Plums, Potatoes, Avocados, Asparagus, Peaches, and Grapes.

Welcome to Quarter 2!! Starting Monday, November 3rd students will start losing points for each day an assignment is turned in late and will also lose a point if they do not put their name on their paper! This is to prepare them for the reality of middle school and on in their academic careers. I will be reminding them every day this week, but remind them at home as well so they can mentally prepare. Also Friday, October 31st will be Idiom Day where students will get points for dressing up in any way that clearly represents an idiom (they must be able to explain the idiom and what it means to get full credit). I sent them home with a flyer with example ideas- pinterest is also a great resource for simple DIYs.
