Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund

Overview

A Commitment to our Families

Texas Leadership is committed to a successful transition back to in-person learning. We will work to achieve our goal of ensuring every student receives a rigorous and enriching educational experience that prepares them for success in college, career, and life. While the past year has provided challenges, we remain focused on pursuing personalized and equitable learning models that provide access to the tools and resources needed for all methods of learning.

The dollars allocated through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund are critical to getting our teachers and students back on track and ready for the upcoming school year and whatever lies ahead.

For the 2021-22 school year, Texas Leadership has been allocated approximately $5.2M from ESSER III funds, which are to be spent over a 3-year period. We have a comprehensive, working plan to holistically tackle our needs. Our plan is informed by feedback, research, and a commitment to ensuring every student in Texas Leadership is prepared for success.

Stakeholder Feedback

Community input is vital. Texas Leadership periodically requests feedback on how to best use federal ESSER funds to support our students, and how to best implement protocol as we attend school in person again. We want to hear from you! To review our plans, please see the attached documents below: Return to In Person Instruction and Continuity of Services and Use of Funds. Please contact avery.hathorne@texasleadership.net with any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Proposed Investments

Social & Emotional Learning

Additional counselors and mental health professionals will ensure that every student in Texas Leadership has access to the socio-emotional supports they need to be successful in school and in life.

In addition to making sure every school has support staff, we're purchasing a social and emotional learning program

Additional Intervention Time

Texas Leadership campuses are revising their master schedules to include additional time for intervention and tutoring during the school day.

Some campuses are also offering after-school tutoring for students who are significantly behind their peers.

Additional Recovery Support

Texas Leadership will invest in programs and initiatives that enable us to fully support our families and community:

  • Expanding Extracurriculars

  • Parent and Community Engagement

  • Enrollment and Marketing Support

  • Reading Academies

  • Additional teachers for growing programs

Staff Compensation

It has been an incredibly difficult year for our teachers. Texas Leadership is committed to rewarding all returning teachers with a retention stipend for staying committed to our students and families.

  • One time stipend for returning Texas Leadership teachers - $1,000 per teacher - $500 paid in December and $500 paid in May

  • One time Education Field Retention stipend for all instructional staff - $1,000 per teacher paid throughout the year and $500 per paraprofessional paid out throughout the year

Our custodial teams have worked tirelessly to maintain safe and healthy facilities for our staff and students. We are committed to increasing the minimum base hourly pay for all custodial workers from $10.00 to $12.50 an hour. Those currently making above $12.50 will receive a 5% raise.

Safety & Protection

Even though COVID is currently well controlled, we will continue to be vigilant and allocate funds to reflect our commitment to ensure every student and staff member is as safe as possible, with the following investments:

  • Sanitizers, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies

  • Enhanced filtration and ventilation
