Hi, I'm Mrs. Johnston. I am originally from San Antonio, TX. I have been married for 21 years to my wonderful husband Dunstan. We have 2 boys, Tyler (14) and Ryder (12) and 4 dogs, Dyrks, Darla, Bailey and Bentley. Fun fact...Bailey is our first dog whose name doesn't begin with "D". I love coffee, flavored sparkling water, exercising, yoga, and reading. I am so happy to work with the students of TLCA!
My mission as your School Counselor is to provide tools to strengthen resilience and enhance a positive school environment that promotes the success of every student, staff, and parent in their academic, career, and social-emotional development.
According to the Texas Education Code 33.006 (A), the school counselor provides resources and services to meet the needs of students in their academic, personal and social lives. We accomplish this by performing the 10 basic responsibility domains of the Texas Model: Program Management, Guidance, Counseling, Consultation, Coordination, Student Assessment, Advocacy, Leadership, Professional Behavior, and Professional Standards (TEA, 2018). To make certain that we execute these responsibilities, the Texas Model of Comprehensive School Counseling provides the framework through the four service delivery components. These are Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning and System Support (TEA, 2018).
Guidance helps develop social skills.
Fosters goal attainment.
Responsive Services provide intervention on the students' behalf.
Ensures a fully developed program.
