Year 8 Rugby VS SPH
In a true gem of rugby played out on a challenging muddy pitch, Chichester high school displayed phenomenal effort and commitment, ultimately succumbing to St. Phillip Howard in a narrow 7-5 loss. Unphased by the heavy conditions, the squad executed a brilliant, defensive-minded game, with the forward pack dominating the set-piece battle throughout. The second half saw immense pressure from both sides, and a single converted try against us late in the game shifted the score to the final 7-5 result. Despite launching wave after wave of desperate attack in the final minutes, the lads could not find the finishing touch, but they left the field knowing they delivered a quality, heart-filled performance worthy of immense pride.
Man of the match goes to James Mathers, this is for his shining performance with tackling and moving the ball up the field with slim experience of rugby, he really outperformed himself and proved his ability to be one of the strongest in the teams.

Coached admirably by Mr. McArthur, the team had to play all of their games with one player less than the opposition due to a pre-tournament illness. Despite being shorthanded in every match, the B Team's resilience and teamwork were truly inspiring. This impressive performance saw the B Team finish strong, securing 5th place out of 7 teams in their pool. Annie Paffey confidently scored the first penalty for CHS, and goalkeeper Alice Williams made an incredible save from SPH’s first effort. Sadie Finch’s penalty was well struck but was saved by the SPH keeper, with SPH then converting their next kick. Their pressing and movement in the final third repeatedly stretched Steyning, and several promising opportunities came and went as CHS looked to extend their advantage. Despite the pressure, the score remained 1–0 at half-time, with CHS comfortably on top.
The second half told a different story. Steyning returned with renewed energy, steadily growing into the game and putting CHS under sustained pressure. The visitors defended well for long spells, but with around 15 minutes left, Steyning found an equaliser—capitalising on a rare defensive lapse to bring the score to 1–1.

CHS and St Paul’s played out a tight, evenly balanced contest where neither side ever fully took control. The opening stages saw both teams feeling their way into the game, with CHS putting together some tidy build-up play while St Paul’s looked to threaten on the counter.
St Paul’s managed to take the lead midway through the first half after a spell of pressure, finishing clinically from inside the box. CHS responded well, tightening up defensively and beginning to move the ball with more confidence, but went into the break trailing.

His goal lifted the entire team, and from that moment CHS pushed forward with real purpose. George Maddox levelled the score after the first setback, reacting well to finish from close range. Later, after Bourne regained the lead, Beau Williams struck with excellent closing down forcing the defender into a mistake which led to Beau taking the chance to bring CHS level again.
The match grew increasingly feisty as it went on, with both teams battling for control and neither willing to give an inch. In the end, given the nature of the game and the effort from both sides, a draw felt like a fair result.

Their flexibility with positions meant we were able to change the challenge for FCC every quarter which only further showcased our skill and ability.
It was such a pleasure to witness the girls communicating so effectively and enjoying the game. CHS led the whole game and only conceded a goal in the 3rd quarter and another in the 4th. The key theme was that despite having such a lead the girls never became complacent and still fought for every goal in order to gain the largest goal difference possible.
Congratulations girls, it was a pleasure to umpire.

The primary goal was to introduce the lads to a new experience of competitive football and an away environment. This was achieved, and the experience gained is crucial for future development and the team's attitude remained positive, which is a significant win despite the scoreline.

What really stood out was just how much the team has grown since last week’s performance. There was far more cohesion in attack, stronger communication through the centre court, and improved defensive pressure across all thirds. It’s clear that the hard work in training is starting to show.
Of course, there are still areas to develop — consistency in passing, timing on drives, and tighter marking will be key focus points moving forward. But the foundations are firmly in place, and the improvement is obvious to see.
Keep going, girls — you’re heading in the right direction. With this attitude and effort, the results will follow. Keep up the brilliant work!

To their credit, Midhurst managed to pull two goals back late in the game, but the result was never in doubt.
Mrs. Paffey, in a moment of motivational generosity, had promised the entire team a protein bar each if they won. She may be rethinking the cost of that decision but it was worth it for the performance on the pitch.
A strong team effort, standout goals, and another win on the board. CHS march on.

The game started slowly for the CHS side, with a number of small unforced errors allowing the opposition to gain the upper hand and take an early 1-0 lead. Despite the setback, the players maintained their composure and worked hard to push the Bishop Luffa defence back, creating chances that, frustratingly, would not convert. Man of the match- Musaweer for a great batting showcase. Well done.
CHS 58 vs 88 Bishop Luffa
The CHS cricket team played against Bishop Luffa in a competitive fixture, putting in a strong performance despite narrowly losing the match.
Jack J and Josh C were outstanding throughout, especially considering this was only their second competitive game for the school. Josh C made a brilliant catch off the first ball to dismiss Bishop Luffa’s opening batsman, making it a golden duck, which gave the team a strong start in the field!
Harrison Smith bowled fantastically, putting consistent pressure on the opposition with accurate and challenging deliveries. The team worked well together in the field, showing good energy and encouraging each other throughout.
Batting was positive, but it was our confidence in running between the stumps that let us fall short in the end. With more experience, the team will continue to grow in this area and turn close games into wins.
Overall, it was a good performance from CHS, with plenty of positives to take into the next fixture.
Man of the match- Harrison for leading well with batting and bowling and showing the field what a left handed bowler can do. Well done

CHS vs Felpham Community College
In a thrilling encounter against Felpham Community College, our Year 8 cricket team fell just short in a nail-biting finish, losing with only one ball to come, our team got off to a steady start with some solid partnerships in the middle order. The standout performer was Musaweer, who impressed with composed shot selection and fluent stroke play, reaching 32 runs before retiring not out in line with match regulations. His contribution laid the foundation for a competitive total, and the team finished with a respectable score of 79
In the second innings, our bowling unit struggled to maintain consistency, allowing Felpham to build momentum with regular boundaries and quick singles. Despite a few moments of tight fielding and some promising deliveries, the inability to keep the pressure on ultimately proved costly.
As the match drew to a dramatic climax, Felpham required just a few runs off the final over. Our bowlers fought hard to take it to the last ball, but the opposition managed to score the winning runs with just one delivery remaining.
Despite the loss, there were several positives to take forward, especially the batting display led by Musaweer, whose all-round composure and skill earned him the Man of the Match award. The team will look to regroup, work on their bowling discipline, and come back stronger in the next fixture.
Year 7 Street Cricket

CHS vs SPH
In an exciting encounter between CHS and SPH, SPH emerged as the stronger side, securing a hard-fought victory thanks to their powerful batting display.
CHS started the match with a disciplined bowling attack, putting pressure on the SPH batsmen from the outset. Their bowlers executed tight lines and lengths, picking up crucial wickets at regular intervals to keep the scoring in check. The spin and pace combination from CHS made scoring difficult, and at one stage, it looked like they might restrict SPH to a modest total.
However, SPH’s batting lineup showed great resilience and depth. After a shaky start, their middle order steadied the innings, building partnerships and gradually accelerating the run rate. Key batsmen played with composure and aggression when needed, steadily wearing down the CHS bowling attack. This solid batting effort allowed SPH to post a competitive total that ultimately proved too challenging for CHS to chase.
Despite CHS’s best efforts with the ball, their batting could not match the firepower shown by SPH. The chase was characterized by some good individual contributions but lacked the consistency required to close the gap. The stronger batting lineup of SPH made the difference in the end, earning them a well-deserved victory.
Overall, it was a match where CHS’s bowling shone bright, but SPH’s superior batting depth and execution decided the outcome.

CHS lost by 7 wickets to TRS
The first game of the season for the U15s was hosting The Regis. They came with a very strong side who have always been competitive in the county cups. CHS selected to bat first and in difficult conditions runs were difficult to come by. Pick of the batters was Rayan Ali who fought hard to gain his runs. CHS ended their innings on 64 runs. A total that was below par unfortunately. This was reflected in the run chase as TRS comfortably got the total with 4 overs to spare for the loss of 3 wickets. However the bowling was a much better display form CHS with some good line and lengths being bowled consistently which will stand them in good stead for the next game. It was great to have cricket back at CHS and we look forward to the next game which is against Midhurst.

CHS won by 9 runs vs OSVA
CHS kicked off the cricket season with a bang, taking their first win against Ormiston Six Villages Academy. CHS opened the batting with Ben Rossel and Leo Hewitt, both of these lads took the field in confidence pushing runs up the board with Ben finding boundary for four consecutively three times. OSVA managed to claim a wicket on Leo from some fast bowling, this however made space for Harrison Smith who put in an excellent shift for his very first game of structured cricket, defensive shots and straight drives came natural! CHS took turns to bowl with Harrison opening. After a couple of chucks the third claimed the stumps with the bails flying high, this was also later replicated during his fielding with an absolute snipe of the wicket from square leg to leave OSVA a man down. Bowling constantly, CHS claimed two more wickets through this innings and left OSVA trailing. The second innings brought an amazing display of batting from the lads with Jasper O’Connor and Aqueel Azard opening. Unfortunately, due to some spin and swing, Jasper was bowled out, leaving room for Aayan Kumain to showcase his skill. 55 runs up against 26, CHS was left to bowl, Ben, Leo and Aqueel all taking a toss. The anticipation of the chase did not pressure the outfield as an outstanding display of barriers and hands was shown from Ethan Busby, Patrick Best and Sam Barlow as OSVA put up a great challenge. CHS managed to claim the win with the final result being 55-46.
Player of the match goes to Harrison Smith for his excellent display of bowling, batting and fielding!
