Students will bring home a fluency passage each week. They will need to practice reading it each night and then return it every Friday. While it might seem repetative, rereading the same passage helps to improve their fluency! As they are reading it have them time themselves for 1 minute and see how far they get. Later in the week they should be able to get farther into the passage. It is exciting to see that growth each week! Also, you can ask them to retell the passage to you. Being able to retell a story using important details is one of our focus skills in 2nd grade.
Students will earn 10 points for returning the fluency paper completed each week. At the end of the quarter students who have earned enough points will get a prize. Students will also earn a reading t-shirt once they have earned enough points.
