Classroom rules will follow the three pillars of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Our three pillars in Tipp City are respect, responsibility, and integrity. We spend a great deal of time during the beginning of the year modeling and discussing these behaviors in the different areas of our school.
Students receive Tipp Tickets for exhibiting these behaviors by myself as well as other teachers and support staff at Broadway. They will keep track of the number of Tipp tickets they receive. Students will receive classroom prizes for earning Tipp Tickets. At the end of each quarter there is a reward for the students that earn enough tickets to participate.
If students are not exhibiting respect, responsibility, and integrity, they will be given a verbal warning or some type of redirection. If negative behavior continues they will receive a logical consequence such as staying inside to finish their work. They may be asked to complete a Think Sheet which will address the behavior that was wrong and what could be done next time differently. If a Think Slip is sent home, please go over it with your child and send it back to school as soon as possible. At times, I may email or call you to notify of the negative behavior.
I also have a tally system. Each student received 5 tallies at the beginning of the week. If they are not making good choices I will ask them to give me one tally. At the end of the week as long as they have 1 tally left, they can participate in Free Time Friday. This is about 15 minutes long. They can draw, play with Play-Doh or classroom games, or make a free choice on their Chromebook.
