In this section, you will find the various processes and necessary preparations that I had to undergo before officially starting my OJT journey.
Under Module 1, we were required to accomplish the first set of Pre-Deployment forms such as:
Resume (TIP format),
Registration/Pre- Registration Form (2nd Semester)
OJT Requirements Completion Form
Photocopy of School ID
Medical Certificate (from the TIP clinic).
Every copy of the documents were submitted through Canvas and was categorized as assignments under Module 1.
Note: Just remember that, while accomplishing the aforementioned forms, you must have a work place in mind or that you already have some options onto where you want to work at.
Still under Module 1, we were also required to accomplish the second set of Pre-Deployment forms such as:
Letter of Agreement (LOA)
Endorsement Letter
Parent's/Guardian's Waiver
OJT Agreement and Liability Waiver
Certification of Acceptance
Note: By this time, while preparing and accomplishing these forms, you MUST have already chosen the company/agency you want to intern for and that you have already applied at that work place. It's better if you are already hired, so as to easily finish the forms.
I heard about the company, Pearson, ever since I was a freshman (2018). I first encountered the company's name from Sir Salirick and from the senior students at that time. They always told us that Pearson gives allowance during OJT *insert wink*.
Fast forward to my senior year (2022), the time came for us to experience On-The-Job Training. I already had some companies in mind, and of course, Pearson was included on my list. Pearson was the first company I applied and sent my resume at. As soon as the first week of our second semester began, I immediately sent my resume to Pearson's recruitment email and I was also referred by an alumni, who was also an AB-English graduate.
I remembered that I was interviewed last February 1, 2022 (Tuesday), via a surprise phone call. The next day, I got an email from Ms. Juvie Amarante, one of Pearson's Talent Advisor of the Global Talent Acquisition, stating that I have another interview scheduled at February 3, 2022 (Thursday), via Microsoft Teams. The day after that, I received an email that night, saying that I got accepted as an intern for the Recruitment and Onboarding (R&O) team, specifically supporting the Asia-Pacific region (APAC). Additionally, I was placed in a mid-shift, which begins at 12:00 NN and ends at 9:00 PM, from Monday to Friday. Most importantly, they also informed me that my start date was on February 21, 2022.
After confirming that I was hired, I immediately sent all the documents in Step 2, so that the Pearson company representative, Ms. Juvie, was able to accomplish them on behalf of Pearson.
I would also like to add that the other companies I've applied to did not respond, so yes, I considered myself both lucky and blessed that Pearson decided to hire me as their intern. To makes things luckier, Pearson provided the IT equipment (desktop, headset, webcam, and WIFI dongle) for me so that I could fully use their company software and that it would also be easy to access my Pearson work account.
Also, another fun fact is that my classmates, Rona Marie Dingle and Michaela Sibal, also got accepted as interns. The former was hired the same day as me, whereas the latter got hired a few weeks after us. Nonetheless, this makes all three of us as workmates *insert wink and smiley face*.
Other additional experiences during my preparation for internship:
The TIP Career Center required all graduating students to attend seminars that are relevant to the OJT. Here are the seminars I attended:
Mock Job Interview - February 2, 2022; interviewed by Ms. Jessica Apo, the Career Advising Coordinator of the Career Center.
OSDP Training Session - February 9, 2022; helmed by Ms. Marleijule De Guzman, the Student Development Program Officer of the Career Center.
In addition, I also had to watch and read some modules for the OSDP Training Session and answer its activities.
Attached below are my certificates which serve as proofs that I did finished the aforementioned seminars:
