TIME for Kids offers educators the ability to assign TFK worksheets to their students with the click of a button. The first option is to create an assignment and attach the worksheet pdf. (Pro tip: copy and paste the directions at the top of the worksheet into your assignment) Students will then be able to download and print the PDF or complete their on a separate sheet of paper. The second option is to use the Google Drawing application. This allows for your worksheet to be interactive (see video above). You can add a screenshot of a worksheet or quiz to a new Google Drawing, then add that document as an assignment on Google Classroom. This will allow students to type or draw on the image virtually.
There will be a weekly magazine quiz and a weekly cover quiz available as Google Forms quizzes for grades 3–6.
When you click a TIME for Kids Google Forms link, it will ask you to make a copy of the quiz. If you are not logged into a Google account it will prompt you to login so the quiz can be saved to your Google Drive. Because it is a copy, it is fully editable and you can add or delete questions, answer choices, or directions. The eyeball symbol on the top right of the form will allow you to preview the form as a student would see it. See video above for a walk-through.
*Google Forms links can be found on the digital issue pages and linked within the weekly newsletters
In Google Forms you will see a “send” button in the upper right-hand corner. You will be able to assign a quiz to your students by sending it as an email, or by copying the link into Google Classroom or the LMS you use with your class.
To grade Google Forms you will have to return to the quiz in your Google Drive. On the top of the quiz you will find a tab for responses. Students quizzes will populate in this section once they are submitted. If you assign a Google Forms quiz through Google Classroom, you will be unable to access completed quizzes through that platform, and must go to your Drive. You can release scores to students though the Google Forms quiz, which will send them an email to review their quiz or you can manually input their grades into the assignment you created in Google Classroom.
If you are getting emails that students are requesting access to a quiz, check the settings on your Google Forms. Click the gear symbol on the top right of the form and make sure that “Restrict to users in this organization” is not checked off under general settings.
Students will not be able to retake the original quiz that was sent to them. If you want a student to retake a quiz, you may send them a new link as long as the settings do not limit students to one response.
