In addition to the freedom to self-design a course of study, I would like to state that the advantages of professional interdisciplinary studies include a close reflection of our lives and careers outside of the classroom. Following school, we must work together using all of the skills and knowledge we have acquired via education and experience. Creating a Professional Interdisciplinary Studies course path that combines multiple disciplines makes knowledge and skill integration a key component of your degree.
In the spring of 2025, I enrolled at Jackson State University, unsure of which degree path would help me achieve my professional objectives and enable me to transfer as many hours as feasible. One of the wisest decisions I could have made was to begin a degree and major that would develop and alter in tandem with my changing interests and specialized fields of study. I first heard about Professional Interdisciplinary Studies upon my acceptance into Jackson State University in the Fall of 2024. I believe that a Professional Interdisciplinary Studies student is more desirable for future academic and professional endeavors due to this integrative approach to higher education. The term "general studies" is frequently used to represent Professional Interdisciplinary Studies, but I have found this to be quite misleading. Professional Interdisciplinary Studies gives you the freedom to choose classes that are more likely to align with your personal career goals and subjects of interest, as opposed to standard degrees where you are frequently forced to follow the path set forth by your major.
I've discovered that for creative and disciplined thinkers like myself, a Professional Interdisciplinary Studies degree is an excellent choice. I can investigate and draw connections between a vast array of concepts, methods, and ways of thinking because to this degree. Including two or more fields is a requirement for a Professional Interdisciplinary Studies degree. This enables me to use my expertise in one area to help others better understand the material in another.I discovered that most students who, like me, have certain interests that might not be satisfied by a more conventional degree path would benefit greatly from this major.
Human resources is my primary field of study. This is a crucial component of the employment industry. Talent management, pay and benefits, training and development, compliance, and workplace safety are the five primary responsibilities of human resources. By efficiently managing the employment lifecycle, an HR department can contribute to organizational structure and the capacity to satisfy business needs. Education is another area of intermediate topics that I would like to study. The most prevalent career route for graduates of Professional Interdisciplinary Studies is teaching at the primary or secondary level.
