Cheryl Butler

Learning Specialist

First and foremost, Cheryl is a lifelong learner. She has worked in education for twenty years, with middle school through college students. For much of her educator experience she has been a Science and STEM teacher, change leader, technology pilot, and peer coach. She has taught in three different states. In Colorado, not only was she a classroom educator, but also served on a state Department of Education committee tasked with creating a project based assessment bank for state wide teachers. She explored bringing customized learning into her K-12 school with a team of teachers and administrators. In Nebraska she had the opportunity to serve as the Director of Transitional Studies, a remedial education department, at Chadron State College. In this role she worked to define coursework for under-prepared freshmen as well as course placement strategies. Additionally she initiated mentorship programs, a reporting system for faculty use to obtain help for at-risk students, and taught courses in Chemistry, Science for the Elementary and Middle School Teacher, as well as an executive function training course. Cheryl's experience at Chadron State helped her to learn more about the need for learners to have agency and ownership in their learning. Finally in South Dakota, Cheryl worked in many facets of education; as a classroom teacher, special education data and assessment analyst and now as a Learning Specialist for Technology and Innovation in Education (TIE).
