Reparations.......
The NAACP supports reparations as a necessary step toward repairing the enduring harm caused by slavery, Jim Crow segregation, and ongoing systemic racism. Reparations are not simply about financial compensation—they are about accountability, repair, and justice.
Reparations seek to address the racial wealth gap and inequities in housing, education, healthcare, employment, and the criminal legal system that persist as a direct result of government-sanctioned discrimination against Black Americans. This includes policies such as redlining, discriminatory lending, exclusion from New Deal programs, and mass incarceration.
The NAACP calls for comprehensive reparative justice, including:
Formal acknowledgment and apology for past and ongoing harms
Policy reforms to dismantle structural racism
Investments in Black communities through housing, education, healthcare, and economic opportunity
Community-led solutions informed by historical truth and data
Reparations are about restoring what was taken and ensuring equity for future generations. They are a moral, legal, and economic imperative to advance racial justice and fulfill the promise of democracy for all.
