TAG Assignment Options: 8th L.A.

Quarter 1



Vocab- TAG students may challenge themselves by choosing to learn words listed on the TAG optional vocab pages.

Wanted Poster-TAG students may include at least five different types of figurative language (examples can be found in the vocab section in the back of the Christopher handbook) in their poster. Students are encouraged to use as many as they can. On the back of your poster, please list your figurative language and name it.

Figurative Language in Songs- TAG students may choose their own appropriate song (with parent permission) to analyze. TAG students may also create a video or slideshow illustrating examples of figurative language being used in the real world (including throughout all appropriate media)

Animal Poem- TAG students may choose to, instead, create a legend or myth. Legend/Myth Assignment.


Vocab- TAG students may challenge themselves by choosing to learn words listed on the TAG optional vocab pages.

ESSAY- TAG students may challenge themselves by choosing to aim for the 5/6 columns of the writing rubric.


Quarter 3


Vocab- TAG students may challenge themselves by choosing to learn words listed on the TAG optional vocab pages. They may also create study materials for the class.

ESSAY- TAG students may challenge themselves by choosing to aim for the 5/6 columns of the writing rubric.

Socratic Circle/Informational Texts-Students may challenge themselves by choosing their own topic and creating questions and answers backed by high school leveled articles on Newsela.com.

Grammar-Students may challenge themselves by choosing to focus on the high level grammatical challenges provided in class.

Class Novel-Students may challenge themselves by choosing to on focus on the "Level Up" questions in class, and/or they may create "Level Up" questions for the class.

AR-Students may challenge themselves by choosing to read high school or college level texts and creating a choice report (rubric on site).
