The Thousand Smiles of Mexico Club at JSCHS seeks to offer hands of service to the Thousand Smiles Rotary club and to serve our underprivileged brothers and sisters.
First conceptualized in 1985, the Thousand Smiles of Rotary International is an already established, non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation that provides life-saving surgeries and related free health care to underserved children so that they can eat properly, speak normally and be more accepted in their communities and normal lives.
Thousand Smiles is completely managed and run by volunteers. The foundation receives hands from numerous organizations. Beyond the rotary clubs of Old Mission San Diego, La Jolla, Coronado, Del Mar, etc, there is also support from sponsors like A-1 Self Storage.
Dentists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, ENTs, and surgeons alike join forces to provide free maxillofacial surgery, dental treatment, as well as various associated procedures to children from financially challenged families in Mexico. Pre-med students aid with service, also.
Service from the Thousand Smiles of Mexico Club at JSCHS is special because we provide a youngly eager group of students that would have otherwise never been afforded the opportunity to help young children in Mexico.
We’re doing it all. From moving boxes or packing lunches to helping register patients, working with Thousand Smiles’ integrated server, or functioning as “runners,”—the crucial link between patients and doctors—we’re creating a real impact in care and efficiency.
The Thousand Smiles of Mexico Club at JSCHS has quickly grown to become JSerra's largest and most active club.
We're proud to see high school students be so engaged in our project, meeting every month to discuss future plans, participating in fundraisers after school, and coming to Mexico to help hands-on.
We encourage everyone's ideas and enthusiasm. See how you can contribute: Thousand Smiles Foundation
