Below are the children who shared good work.
As parents, we all want the best for our children. We help with homework, pack nutritious lunches, and cheer them on from the sidelines. Yet, one of the most powerful and simple ways we can support our child's success and happiness is by championing excellent school attendance.
It’s easy to think that a few missed days here and there won't make a difference, especially in primary school. But every single day in the classroom is an opportunity for learning, growth, and connection—a building block for their future. Consistent attendance isn't just about academic achievement; it's the cornerstone of your child's social, emotional, and personal development.
The powerful link between attendance and well-being
Children thrive on routine, and school provides a consistent, reliable environment where they feel safe and secure. Being in school every day helps your child to:
Build strong friendships: Regular attendance gives children the opportunity to form deep and lasting friendships. They share jokes, navigate playground challenges, and celebrate successes together. Consistent interaction builds the social competence and confidence they will carry with them for life.
Feel a sense of belonging: When children are regularly in school, they feel included and part of the school community. This sense of belonging is vital for their mental and emotional well-being and gives them the confidence to participate in class and extracurricular activities.
Boost confidence: Staying up to date with schoolwork allows children to feel competent and capable, which in turn nurtures their self-esteem. When a child is confident in their learning, they are more resilient and motivated.
How attendance unlocks academic progress
Missing school creates gaps in your child’s learning that can be difficult to fill. The ripple effect of a single day's absence can quickly add up.
Consistent learning: In primary school, new concepts are built on the foundation of previous knowledge. A missed day can mean missing a key lesson, making it harder to grasp future topics. Regular attendance ensures a seamless and consistent educational experience.
Better attainment: Research consistently shows a direct link between high attendance and better academic outcomes. Children with near-perfect attendance are significantly more likely to reach the expected standards in reading, writing, and maths by the end of primary school.
The bigger picture: Life skills and future success
Beyond the immediate benefits, good attendance habits in primary school are an investment in your child's long-term success.
Essential life skills: Showing up on time and ready to learn teaches your child reliability and responsibility—traits that will serve them well in secondary school and beyond, into their careers.
Resilience and maturity: Learning to push through mild anxiety or minor discomforts by attending school builds resilience. When children know they can count on their teachers and peers, it helps them navigate challenges with more confidence.
How you can help
As parents, you are the most influential role models for your children. Your positive attitude toward school sets the tone for their own. You can support your child by:
Establishing positive routines: A consistent bedtime and morning schedule will ensure your child is well-rested and prepared for the day ahead.
Communicating with us: If your child is struggling, please talk to us. We are here to listen and work with you to find a solution. Our priority is your child's well-being.
Arranging appointments outside of school hours: Wherever possible, book non-urgent appointments and holidays during school breaks to avoid disruption to your child's education.
Celebrating success: Recognise and praise your child's efforts in attending school regularly. Your positive encouragement is a powerful motivator.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child receives the full benefits of their primary school journey. By working together, we can give every child the best possible start in life.

On Tuesday morning we took 8 Y6 children to a golf festival at Rotherham Golf Club. The children took part in a carousel of 6 activities such as the driving range, putting, chip and putt and much more. All 8 children absolutely loved it and it's safe to say we have some potential golf superstars in school. Please see the attached flyer with more information regarding junior lessons if you're interested in your child joining.
On Monday our football team took part in the Rawmarsh Qualifying Tournament at Rawmarsh St Joseph's JFC.
The team were fantastic throughout and represented the Thorogate badge with pride. The biggest compliment I could give them was every single one of them gave 100%. Mr Lockwood and I were so proud of the way they played, individually and as part of a team and how good their attitudes were throughout.
We won, drew and lost in the 3 games we played meaning we came runners up in Rawmarsh.
The team have now qualified for the quarter finals of the Barlow Salmons and will play Our Lady St Joseph's this coming Monday at RSJJFC (2pm kick off).
A massive thank you as always to Paul, Sue and everyone else at RSJJFC for letting us use their facilities, it's much appreciated.
