Welcome to Year 2.
I hope you all had a lovely summer and the children got a well deserved rest. I look forward to welcoming the children into Year 2 and getting to know them over the next few weeks. Please find below an overview of what the children will be learning this year in the Autumn term.

As mathematicians, we will begin to secure our understanding of place value of numbers to 100 by making tens and regrouping two-digit numbers.

As scientists, we will learn about ‘Animals, including humans.’ We will begin by finding out and describing the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival. Through various scientific enquiries and investigations, we will learn how to describe the importance of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food and hygiene. Towards the end of the term, we will explore different animal and human lifecycles and notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults.

As historians, we will build upon our knowledge and understanding of The Great Fire of London. We will consider questions such as: What happened during the Great Fire? What caused the fire to spread so quickly? How was London rebuilt after the fire?

song, Hands, Feet, Heart which celebrates South African music. We will be adding body percussion, such as claps, clicks and stamps. We will learn to match rhythm patterns and work towards each movement being a specific note.

As athletes, we will take part in the topics Hands and Feet. As part of this session, we will be using out throwing and catching skills and our skills of kicking a ball. We will also be learning key skills of gymnastics and dance.

We continue to encourage more children to read for pleasure. Research shows a positive link between reading frequency and enjoyment and educational attainment. Please continue to support your children by reading with them daily and discussing their reading.
