Topics for this term
Here is an overview of our nursery curriculum for the upcoming term. We are excited to engage the children in two main topics: Traditional Stories and Out and About. These themes will support the children’s language development, curiosity, and understanding of the world.
In our Traditional Stories topic, the children will explore a variety of well-known and much-loved tales. We will focus on retelling familiar stories to build confidence in speaking and listening. The children will also create simple story maps to help them understand story structure and sequence events.
Our second topic, Out and About, will encourage the children to explore the natural world. We will be learning about minibeasts, observing them in their habitats. In addition, the children will learn about plants, including how they grow and what they need to survive. There will be opportunities for hands-on experiences such as planting seeds and observing changes over time. We will also have an enjoyable school trip to Boydell’s Farm in July.
Throughout both topics, we will continue to support the children’s development across all areas of learning, including communication and language, physical development, and personal, social, and emotional development.
Ways to help your child at home
As we prepare the children for their transition to Reception, we will also be focusing on developing key skills that will support their independence and readiness for the next stage of learning. We would really appreciate your support with practising these at home:
Maintaining concentration for short periods of time – for example, encouraging your child to complete a simple puzzle or activity from start to finish.
Following simple instructions – such as “put your socks on” or “put the toys in the basket.”
Becoming more independent – including taking their own shoes on and off and using the toilet independently.
Tidying away – encouraging your child to help tidy up after they have finished playing.
Supporting these skills at home will make a big difference in helping your child feel confident and ready for Reception.
We look forward to a fun and enriching term ahead. If you have any questions or would like further ideas on how to support your child at home, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the team.
Thank you for your continued support.
