Autumn 2024
Amazing Me & Seasons and Celebrations
Amazing Me & Seasons and Celebrations
Literacy Communication and Language
This term, we will be focussing on small group time sessions designed to enhance our children’s listening and attention skills. We will explore a wide range of nursery rhymes and repetitive songs. Engaging with music and rhythm not only fosters a love for language but also aids in the development of auditory skills. We will encourage the children to begin identifying initial sounds in the environment around them,
Mathematical Development
I wanted to share some of the key focus areas we will be exploring with the children, specifically around numbers. We will be concentrating on noticing and comparing amounts up to 3, as well as thinking about number order and position.
Understanding numbers is crucial for the children's development in Early Years, and our activities will revolve around playful, hands-on experiences that allow them to engage with numbers naturally. Through games, songs, and creative activities, the children will begin to identify and compare small quantities, strengthening their foundational maths skills.
Understanding the World
We will be focusing on how our senses work, and encouraging the children to express their thoughts and observations. We will engage in a variety of activities that promote physical awareness and sensory exploration.
In addition to our focus on senses, we will be celebrating a range of wonderful festivals this term, including Harvest, Diwali, and Christmas. Each festival offers a unique opportunity for the children to learn about different cultures and traditions, fostering a sense of respect and appreciation for diversity. We will be incorporating stories, songs, and crafts related to these celebrations.
Physical Development
Our P.E focus will be experimenting with different ways of moving to music and beginning to developing greater confidence and control in large and small fine motor movements. During our Woodland Learning sessions, we will be thinking about how to use the area safely and sensibly whilst learning about the things we see as the seasons change.
PSED (personal, social & emotional development)
Our main focus for this term is helping the children to feel happy and settled in their new classroom. They will be developing new friendships and learning how to share and take turns.
Expressive Arts & Design
(Music, Art& Design, DT,
Role- play, small world etc.)
We will be modelling how to play in the home corner. This area of our classroom is vital for developing social skills, imagination, and a sense of community among our children. We will also be delving into the art area, exploring the different resources available to the children. This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to express their creativity. We will also focus on honing motor skills by practising how to hold scissors and paintbrushes correctly.
As we approach the end of the autumn term, we are excited to announce that we will also be preparing for a Christmas production!
