Systems of Communications

At Thorn Grove, we want  children to feel safe and happy in school and to make the best possible progress both academically and emotionally.   Building strong relationships with parents and carers is vital to this and good communication is key.

We use the following channels for communication.

School Gateway App

Used to send whole school messages such as newsletter, charity days and other school-wide information.  Please download the Schoolgateway App.

All school payments associated with your child including school dinners are made via School Gateway as we are a cashless school. This is also where you pre-order lunches.

E-mail

Used by school staff to communicate with parents.

Used by parents/carers for direct communication with school.  Teachers' e-mail addresses can be found on the school’s website. (https://www.thorngrove.herts.sch.uk/about-us-2/staff).  Teachers will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

WhatsApp

Each year group has a WhatsApp Group managed by Parent Representatives.  A joining QR code is displayed in the class window.

Parent Representatives are valued volunteer members of our school community and their time and commitment are appreciated. Their role is to work with the school through communicating information to parents, providing feedback to the school and seeking parent support for social activities.

Class representatives should not to be used to help parents express concerns about their own children.  Any concerns should be voiced directly to the school.

Parent Representatives for academic year 2023-2024 are:

Nursery - Caz Forbes

Year 2 - Jessica Melton

Year 5 - Susy Gould-Obiora

Reception - Jenny Clark

Year 3 - Sarah Fowles

Year 6 - Maria Fernando

Year 1 - Jo Fouracre

Year 4 - Tracey Fegan

The school has no involvement in the management of these groups.

Website (www.thorngrove.herts.sch.uk)

The website provides useful information and can be your first point for answering any questions about Thorn Grove: The school calendar is particularly useful for up and coming events.

Termly Parent Voice Meetings

These sessions are held by a member of the Senior Leadership Team and provide an opportunity to share, in person, opinions relating to whole school matters. These sessions include discussions between parents/carers and the school regarding the school’s development.  Those who cannot attend are welcome to e-mail their opinions.
