Summer 2026
'Once Upon A Time & Out and About'
'Once Upon A Time & Out and About'
Literacy (inc.Read Write Inc.) Communication and Language
This term, the children will develop their language skills by retelling some of our favourite traditional stories. Please continue to revisit all the set 1 sounds, including ‘special friends’. Once familiar with these, they can begin to practise saying the set 2 sounds. It is important that your child is able to quickly and confidently say the sounds to help them with their reading. They will also continue to work on spelling words using these sounds and begin to write simple phrases and sentences with greater independence.
Mathematical Development
This term we will continue subitising amounts. We will be learning how to order objects in size order and measuring using non-standard units. We will also learn about doubling and halving and odd and even numbers to 10. We will also consolidate learning our number bonds to 5 (two numbers that when added together make 5).
Understanding the World
This term the children will learn about the parts of a plant and what they need to grow. They will also learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and have fun exploring the woodland and discovering different minibeasts. We will also be learning about floating and sinking and looking at changing states through making porridge.
Physical Development
Our P.E sessions will be focusing team games and our feet. This will include dribbling, attack and defence games. We will also be preparing for our sports day event
During our Woodland Learning sessions, the children will be exploring the changes we see during spring and summer. We will also continue to work on our den building skills.
PSED (personal, social & emotional development)
Our SCARF topics this term are ‘keeping myself safe’ and 'Growing and Changing'. We will think about how we stay safe both indoors and outdoors. We will also be preparing the children for their transition to year 1.

This term, the children will make bridges using large loose parts in the outside area. Through story telling and role-play, the children will re-tell traditional tales using various props and resources.
