'Winter' and 'People Who Help Us'
Literacy (inc.Read Write Inc.) Communication and Language
This term, the children will continue to learn the individual letter sounds and begin to learn the Set 1 and 2 ‘Special Friends’. These are two or more letters that make one sound. They will blend and segment three or four sounds together for reading and spelling and will also have daily handwriting sessions. The children will also begin to read and write short phrases and sentences during Read, Write, Inc sessions.
Mathematical Development
This term the children will begin to learn their number bonds to 5 (this is two numbers added together to make 5). They will also continue to subitise amounts, explore features of 2D shapes and compare different quantities of numbers (more, fewer, equal).
Understanding the World
This term the children will be learning about the North and South Pole. They will find out about similarities and differences between the Arctic and Antarctic regions and think about how these environments are different to the one in which they live. They will also learn about Chinese New Year, Ramadan and Easter celebrations.
Physical Development
Our P.E focus will be dance and ball skills. The focus of learning will be to explore different movements using different parts of the body and to explore different ways of using our hands to move with a ball. During our weekly Woodland Learning sessions, the children will be exploring the changes we see during winter and spring.
PSED (personal, social & emotional development)
Our SCARF topics this term are ‘Being My Best’ and ‘Rights and Responsibilities’. The children will think about how to keep their minds and bodies healthy through exercise, sleep and healthy eating. They will also discuss different ways to look after our world and think about how to be helpful at home and in the classroom.
Expressive Arts & Design
(Music, Art& Design, DT,
Role- play, small world etc.)
This term, the children will continue to learn how to correctly handle and safely use different tools (such as paint brushes, scissors and glue sticks). In music the children will be listening and responding to different styles of music, learning to sing along with nursery rhymes and action songs and exploring a range of classroom musical instruments.
