Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for supporting us in our campaign to improve safety for our pupils and reduce congestion on Thorn Grove during peak school hours. The vehicle-free zone had a positive impact on the the parking and traffic issues in the area last week. We would like this to continue over the coming weeks and months.
Miss Crowe will be leaving us later this year to go travelling in November. We will be sad to see her go but we are also excited for her at the same time. Miss Crowe will be with us until the October half term but will only be teaching one day a week when we return in September. We have appointed Miss Monk, who is currently with us in year 1, as a class teacher from September. We will be sharing information about your child's class teacher for the next academic year over the coming weeks.
School photos are on Wednesday, these are class photos and not individual. Children should come to school in their school uniform, however, if they have PE on that day please send your child in with their PE kit to change into.
Our Year 2 children will be taking part in the Year 2 Music Festival at the South Mill Centre on Tuesday 24th June. Parents should have received a letter with further details regarding timings and tickets. If you need any more information then please speak to Miss Crowe or the school office.
Congratulations to Lila, Ottilie, Nicole, Henry, Florence, Constance, Aria, Abigail and Georgia for entering Poetry By Heart - a national poetry speaking competition for schools in England. All the children were awarded a participation certificate with Abigail, Constance and Georgia being awarded Commended or Highly Commended for their performances.
Our Year 6 class alongside all Year 6 children of all our local schools were fortunate to virtually attend an inspirational talk by Chris Lubbe. Chris was a bodyguard for Nelson Mandela and shared his story containing themes such as fear, determination, courage, love and forgiveness, all in the face of racial discrimination.
The children have a skipping workshop on Friday, it is important for all children to be active. After school on Friday ropes can be purchased via the companies website. http://www.skipping-workshops.co.uk/shop/ and also be sold in the vestibule. Infant and junior ropes are £6 each; infant & junior solar ropes are £7 and adult ropes are £7. Please note that ropes sales are ‘cash only’.

You might feel hungry after reading this poem with all its references to delicious spices used in traditional Indian cooking. The preparation of the food with her mother is clearly a joyful activity for the speaker but it also helps the poet feel connected to the land and culture of her father when she bites into a chilli.
