Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back. We are impressed with how well the children in each class have returned. They have shown great attitudes to their learning and I’m sure this will continue.
We welcome some new children and families to Thorn Grove this term. If you see someone new, please say hello and help them if they need it.
Please look out for the class ‘curriculum letters’. This will provide information about what your child will be learning this term. There will also be meetings held by their class teacher to share class expectations, curriculum updates and day to day activities. You should have received the dates and times for these meetings. If you are unable to attend you will be able to access the information on the school website.
Just a gentle reminder to name your child’s uniform. Can we also ask that your child is wearing appropriate footwear.
Don't forget to update any relevant details on your child's Arbor account. If you do not know how to access this, contact the office.
If you need to speak to your child’s teacher and this proves difficult in the morning or after school then please feel free to email them with any information, concerns or questions. The e-mail addresses are on the school website.
Please remember that Thorn Grove is a no parking zone before and after school. We appreciate that you are parking further away and walking to school to keep all the children safe.
Attendance
School will be closely monitoring your child’s attendance this term. If your child’s attendance is at or below:
95/96% - you will receive a call home to discuss absences
93/94% - a letter will be sent offering support to see how we can help you improve your child’s attendance
91/92% - you will be invited to an attendance meeting held to identify barriers to learning and offer further support, and/or reasonable adjustments
90% - you will receive a Notice to Improve letter
If you receive a Notice to Improve letter and attendance doesn’t improve you may receive a fixed penalty notice and/or a referral will be made to the Local Authority.
If your child’s class has attendance above 95% this half term then they will receive a non- uniform day.
It can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school when they're unwell. If you are unsure please use the guidance provided by the NHS.
Thank you for supporting the PTA fundraising events. The library would not be possible without the work of our PTA. If you would like to know more about being involved, please email Sarah at pta@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk
Snack-tember is a month-long initiative by the British Nutrition Foundation aimed at promoting healthier snacking habits among children. The initiative encourages us to explore our current snacking choices, try new healthier snacks, and make our own healthy snacks. More information and snack ideas can be found at Attack the Snack - Simply Veg
We would like to support this campaign and suggest that children bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable to school for snack at least twice a week – Key Stage 1 children receive free fruit or vegetables each day.
Using the food labelling code is a helpful way to see at a glance if a snack has high, medium, or low amounts of fat, saturated fat, sugars, and salt: red means high, amber means medium, and green means low. In short, the more green(s), the healthier the choice.
