Weekly Newsletter

Tuesday 7th May 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you enjoyed attending the open classrooms last week. It was great to see so many of you coming in to see your children and support their learning.

Last week we received notification of a silver award for Modeshift STARS accreditation as part of the National School Travel Awards. Thank you for supporting us in encouraging children to be more active; walk, scoot and cycle more to and from school and for turning your engines off and not idling whilst waiting at pick up and drop off. Little changes in attitudes have a big impact on environmental issues which affect us all.

With the weather forecast looking good (for a change!) please join us at school for Thornfest this Saturday (May 11th) from 12-3pm. Please remember that this is a cash only event. If you can spare some time, even half an hour,  we'd love it if you could help. Contact the PTA via your parent Whats App groups if you are able to.

If you are a photographer or have a love of photography we are looking for someone to take some photos for us. This is to enable us to update our images on our school website. If you're able to help please contact the school office.

On Monday 20th May we are working with Hertfordshire County Council to understand how the rising financial pressures are due to the cost of living crisis.  Could this be impacting on children’s learning and to try to ensure that pressure on household income doesn’t have a negative impact on any child’s education. We will discuss topics such as access to after school and lunchtime clubs, trips, music tuition, uniform costs, how free school meals are administered and how children access food during the school day.  You would have received the survey on Friday and we would appreciate it if you could complete this before Monday 13th May. Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Mr Mistry will be leaving us at the end of the Summer Term as he is relocating to Milton Keynes. Miss Brett will be returning following her year teaching in Australia. Mr Mistry has been with us since September 2018 and has been a good teacher and our computing lead. Everyone at Thorn Grove wishes him good luck with his move at the end of the school year.

The Toolbox from Mindler is a dedicated webpage specifically focussing on ADHD and Autism support for children and young people.  The Toolbox offers inspirational content, workshops, self-help tools, interactive livestreams, anonymous text chat service (to ask any questions they may have about Neurodiversity) and lots of other resources and information.  It also serves as a guide, signposting users to alternative services and accessible interventions within Hertfordshire. The toolbox will be hosting a Livestream on 29th May where the team play popular video games and answer all questions related to Neurodiversity. https://thetoolbox.mindler.co.uk/
