Dear Parents and Carers,
On Friday last week we had visitors to help us commemorate and celebrate VE Day. Guests from the local community who support a range of voluntary activities were invited to a lovely afternoon tea with a celebration programme of readings, songs and dance, performed by the pupils in Years 4 to 6. Josh Dean (MP for Hertford and Stortford) and Hertfordshire Deputy Lieutenants Karen Trew and Marion Brown were also in attendance. Everyone was invited to join in war time favourites such as ‘We’ll meet again’ and ‘Keep the home fires burning.’ As well as reminding us all that we should never forget the sacrifice of so many who gave their lives for our freedom. Thank you Mrs Canavan for organising. Our year 5 and 6 children will be in attendance in Castle Park for the VE service on Thursday morning this week.

Exciting Plans for a New School Library!
The PTA is thrilled to announce a new project: they are raising funds to build a brand-new library for our school! The aim is to create a modern, welcoming space that will inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning for the children.
Here are three designs and we want your input! The proposed designs will be on display at Thornfest, so be sure to stop by, take a look, and share your thoughts.
Please support the PTA in this important project. Every donation, large or small, helps bring us one step closer to making this dream a reality.
As you may be aware, the traffic congestion on Thorn Grove during school drop-off and pick-up times has been an ongoing challenge. In an effort to improve safety and reduce congestion, we are looking to trial a vehicle-free zone on Thorn Grove during peak school hours, starting in June when we return after half term. This initiative aims to create a safer environment for our pupils while also alleviating the parking and traffic issues in the area.
We understand that this change may impact some of you whilst you drop your child(ren) off, and we welcome any feedback or concerns you may have. If you have any objections or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We will share more information about this over the coming weeks. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work towards a safer and more accessible community for everyone.

Step2Skills continues to recruit for our brand-new Skills Bootcamps!
With a big workforce expansion required to keep up with demand, Step2Skills are offering a Skills Bootcamp to help prepare you to work in the Early Years and Education sector.
At the end of our 16-week bootcamp, learners will be equipped with a Level 2 certificate in childcare, an Emergency Paediatric First Aid Certificate and a DBS check. They will be fully prepared to take their first step into an Early Years job role, or ready to progress to a Level 3 apprenticeship course.
Examples of who could benefit from our Skills Bootcamps;
• Jo is working as a childminder and always has more requests for places which she, alone, cannot accommodate. Jo would really like to employ Simrit as an assistant, but the cost of training Simrit up is a barrier.
Instead Simrit could attend the Step2Skills Skills Bootcamp, meaning that she’s got all the necessary qualifications to support Jo in her childminding business. Her new qualifications mean that she can be counted in the adult-to-child ratios, allowing Jo to expand the number of children she can care for.
• Sam has recently returned to work after a break to raise her children. She is working in the school kitchen, as this work fits well around her childcare responsibilities. However, this job has made her realise that she enjoys working with young children and would like to work in the school’s nursery.
Sam could attend the Step2Skills Skills Bootcamp to give her the qualification she needs to apply for a job in the school nursery.
• Robert has been volunteering in his son’s nursery for one day a week this year and has really enjoyed the challenge and variety of the work. The nursery is keen to take Robert on in a more permanent role when his son starts school in September, so they plan to send him on the Step2Skills Skills Bootcamp to gain the necessary qualifications. Robert already knows the nursery set up and the staff, so he feels confident that this is the best way to develop his new career.
Skills Bootcamps are FREE to the learners and are a great way for employers to grow their own workforce. Skills Bootcamps require commitment and dedication, but they are a fast and efficient way to kickstart your career in a sector that needs YOU!
