Weekly Newsletter

Monday 5th February

Dear Parents and Carers,

There was a real buzz in school on Friday morning at the reading cafe. It was lovely to see so many of you with your children sharing a love of reading.

Safer Internet Day is tomorrow on 6 February 2024. The theme this year is, ‘Inspiring Change: Making a Difference, Managing Influence, and Navigating Change Online.’ The children will be have a heightened focus on online safety during this week but it is taught throughout the year. With increasing numbers of children having phones and gaming online at home the importance of staying safe online could not be more important. We will be running a parent workshop over the coming months to ensure  parents have the tools to support your children. For your information please see the social media age restriction at the bottom of this newsletter.

This week is Children's Mental Health Week. The theme for 2024 is ‘My Voice Matters’. The children will be taking part in different activities.  As part of the week, we will be holding an ‘Express Yourself Day’ on Friday 9th February. This day allows the children to celebrate what makes them unique with a fun dress-up day – this could be sharing their favourite hobby, such as skateboarding or dancing, or wearing their favourite colour or accessory. Or it could be that they come as their selves. Express Yourself is about letting children’s voices shine through and empowering them.!  Please ensure that children still come dressed appropriately for the time of year and wear sensible foot wear.

February 10th marks Chinese New Year which is also known as the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year.  This is one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals in Chinese culture. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and is a time for family reunions, cultural festivities and the welcoming of a new year with hope and optimism. Chinese New Year 2024 is the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese zodiac. Each year the Chinese zodiac is associated with an animal sign, and the Dragon is considered a symbol of strength, courage and good fortune. It is a time to embrace Chinese traditions, enjoy delicious food, and wish for prosperity and happiness in the year ahead.

The new canopy will be installed on the Key Stage 1 playground this week. The old structure will be removed and a new one put in it's place. Thanks to a grant obtained by Anne Hummersone, one of our governors, the playground will be much brighter and improved.

Books Bag

Please ensure Key Stage 1 book bags are large enough to hold a picture book.  We have noticed that the corners on some of our lovely books are being damaged as rucksacks are too small.
