Dear Parents/Carers,
The new library is in and it looks amazing!!! Thank you to Mrs Lilley and the PTA for making the dreams a reality. We'll be having a reading café to officially launch the library. Please look out for more information in the coming days.
At the beginning of the year all the children look smart in their uniforms. It would be great if this continues throughout the autumn term. This also applies to PE kit. The school uniform policy makes it clear what the children should be wearing so please use it if you are unsure. Sometimes the children need an extra jumper or you need to replace some lost uniform and the PTA have lots of preloved uniform available. If you do, then please place your order in the PTA box in the school entrance.
Please make sure all your child's uniform is named so it can be returned if lost or misplaced. We are already gaining lots of unnamed items in the lost property box. This box will be emptied and any items removed at the end of each month.
Most children require a snack at morning break to keep them going through the day. We encourage children to bring in healthy snacks full of vitamins and minerals containing no added salt, fat or sugar. Many of these will help contribute to their 5 daily portions of fruit and vegetables, keep them alert and help them concentrate. It can be hard during the week to think of suitable items for them to bring in to school, but we are aiming, with the help of the children, to not only support them in making healthy choices regarding snacks, but to also reduce food packaging and waste. Children in EYFS and KS1 have a daily snack of fruit or veg provided for free by the government, so additional snacks for these ages may not be required.
If you are intending to send in healthy snacks with your child please limit them to the list below:-
Vegetable sticks – such as celery, cucumber, peppers or carrot, a range of colour ensures different vitamins and minerals.
A piece of cheddar cheese or Babybel
A piece of fresh or dried fruit, high in soluble fibre and vitamins would also be a great snack– pineapple, mango, kiwi, plain raisins, apricots, blueberries, banana slices.
Bread sticks, plain pretzels, banana bread, malt loaf, oat/rice cakes and small pitta breads are also good snacks, providing children with carbohydrate to sustain them in-between meals.
Homemade snack - flapjacks or other oat/whole grain based snack. These must be nut free. Items brought into school should be carefully checked by you, to ensure this. We have pupils who are severely allergic to a range of nuts.
We are aiming for a common-sense approach, with the key being to keep it healthy and no chocolate, sweets or crisps.
As a parent or carer, you have an important role in making school attendance a priority. Only keep your child off school when they are genuinely too ill to attend. Book medical appointments and holidays outside of school time whenever possible. And talk to your the school if you're having difficulties with attendance. If your child is absent it is important that you let the office know the reason why. Failure to notify the office will result in an unauthorised absence on your child's record.
On Thursday , the Autumn School Census will take place. The data collected by the Department for Education (DfE) is the number of Reception, Yr1 and Yr2 children who have school dinner on Census Day. This figure is then used by the Government to decide how much funding we will get next year. For this reason, on Census Days, we are offering all Reception, Yr1 & Yr2 children the opportunity to have a free school dinner lunch, there is a choice of four. It would help the office if you could book your child's meal in advance via Schoolcomms. Your child can still bring in a packed lunch from home, but a school dinner will be prepared if they would like to try this. You will receive a more detailed e-mail within the next few days.

We will be taking part in this year's 500 Words competition, the UK's largest writing competition. There are two age categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year-olds and spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - as has always been the case for 500 Words, it's all about our writers' brilliant creativity!
The children will watch this week's live lesson to discover more about this great competition and should speak to their teacher or Mrs Lilley if they would like to take part.

Snack-tember is a month-long initiative by the British Nutrition Foundation aimed at promoting healthier snacking habits among children. The initiative encourages us to explore our current snacking choices, try new healthier snacks, and make our own healthy snacks. More information and snack ideas can be found at Attack the Snack - Simply Veg
We would like to support this campaign and suggest that children bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable to school for snack at least twice a week – Key Stage 1 children receive free fruit or vegetables each day.
Using the food labelling code is a helpful way to see at a glance if a snack has high, medium, or low amounts of fat, saturated fat, sugars, and salt: red means high, amber means medium, and green means low. In short, the more green(s), the healthier the choice.
