Dear Parents and Carers,
Last week our football teams took part in the Kitteridge Allsports football tournaments at Manuden. The year 3/4 team competed well and were unfortunate not to make the quarter finals. The year 5/6 team played incredibly well and were very unlucky against some very strong teams. The two girls teams were also excellent from the first game to the last. Kayla (Year 6) won goalkeeper of the tournament. Everyone at the school is incredibly proud.
Please can we remind you to put names in your child's school jumpers and cardigans. Due to the warmer weather we have an increasing number of unnamed items in lost property.
There is lots going on this term so please make sure you check the diary, or the website for key dates over the coming weeks. The next big PTA event is Thornfest which is on Saturday 9th May from 12-3pm. If you are able to offer some time to help out that would be great even if you can help with the setting up and tidying away. The PTA will be on the school field from 10am so if you've got 30 minutes or an hour, come along and join in: Many hands make light work!
We have noticed a few cars beginning to be parked in the cul-du-sac to the school. Can we please request that you do not park in this area, especially if you are running late, this is for the safety of the children which for everyone should be a priority.
Class attendances for last term (highest to lowest):
Year 1 - 98.6%
Year 6 - 98.4%
Year 4 - 96.0%
Year 5 - 95.0%
Year 2 - 94.0%
Year 3 - 93.5%
The School Ambassadors and children involved in the Eco Warriors competition attended Bishop’s Stortford’s first Eco Fair in Market Square last week. The children explored eco-friendly stalls and took part in seed planting and energy‑generating bikes. The eco warriors exhibited their model of Thorn Grove 2030. The children will be sharing their ideas on protecting and improving our environment across the school in the coming weeks.
We are excited to let you know that we will be celebrating Heritage Week again this year. This is a great opportunity for the children to share, learn about, and celebrate the rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds within our school community.
Heritage Week will take place from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th June, culminating in a celebration of foods from around the world in the school hall on Friday afternoon.
We would also like to celebrate our children’s home languages by sharing poems, songs, or stories. This can be something short and simple and shared with support from home if needed.
We would like parents and carers to get involved. If you would like to:
Provide a dish for the food celebration, and/or
Share a poem, song, or story in your home language, and/or
Share any ideas

We have signed up with VEGPOWER to promote a positive relationship with healthy food and the whole school will be planting tomatoes seeds this term. Each child will plant their tomato seeds in school in April and repot their tomato plants in to bigger (recycled) pots in June. They will then bring their plants home at the end of term to continue growing over the summer holidays with your support.
