Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to those parents who took part in the Parent Governor vote. Congratulations to Andrew Bennett who will remain in the role.
Last week some of the year 5 and 6 children went to Birchwood to represent the school in the Indoor Athletics Competition. The children did brilliantly and there were some excellent individual performances.
The new house names are Yellow - Giant Panda; Orange - Coral Reef; Green - Sea Turtle; Red - Sunda Tiger; Blue - Emperor Penguin; and Purple - Amur Leopard.
Before half term we will be sending out information on how well your child is getting on at school. This will be a snapshot of where your child is with their learning now. This will help you stay on top of your child's progress and give opportunities to work on any area that they are not as secure in. We will also be sharing dates and times for parent consultations over the coming weeks. These meetings will take place towards the end of the Spring Term, week beginning Monday 23rd March. There will be an option for either a face-to-face (Wednesday 25th March) or a remote meeting.
There will be open classes during the week of 23rd-27th February for parents/carers to come into school to see their child's learning. We appreciate that this may be short notice for some parents but there will be further opportunities later in the year.
If your child is absent from school it is important to let the school office know the reason. Missing a few days of school here and there may not seem a big deal, but research shows that it can have a significant impact on learning. Children who miss a substantial amount of school fall behind their peers, and struggle to catch up. Persistent absence (PA) is defined as an attendance rate of 90% or below.
If parents/carers are looking for workshops to support with your children’s learning, routines or challenging behaviours at home please check the school entrance for leaflets or speak to us about Aspects.
Key Stage 2 pupils will once again be taking part in the Poetry By Heart competition this year. This national event celebrates the joy of learning and performing poetry, helping children build confidence, memory skills and a love of language. Pupils can enter in one of two categories:
Classic Category (Solo Performers). Children choose two poems from the Poetry By Heart website: one poem published before 1914 and one poem published in or after 1914. Performances are judged on Voice, Understanding, Performance and Accuracy, with an emphasis on clear, thoughtful recitation rather than acting.
Freestyle Category (Solo, Pair or Group). This fun, creative option allows children to perform one poem of their choice using any combination of voice, movement, music, costume or staging. The only rule is that the poem must be spoken aloud from memory. Freestyle celebrates imagination, teamwork and expressive performance.
If you would like to help your child choose their poems, more details about poem choices can be found here.

Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven (17th December 1770 – 26 March 1827) was a German composer and pianist who remains one of the most admired composers in the history of Western music; his works rank among the most performed of the classical music repertoire and span the transition from the Classical period to the Romantic era in classical music. In his early period, he forged his craft whilst his middle period showed an individual development from the styles of Haydn and Mozart. During this time, he began to grow increasingly deaf. In his late period, he extended his innovations in musical form and expression.
