Dear Parents and Carers,
Hopefully, you have read the Ofsted report which we sent out on Thursday last week. The report recognises our ambitious curriculum which clearly sets out what pupils need to learn in each subject, at each stage of their education and the calm and purposeful atmosphere around the school. It acknowledges we provide pupils with a high-quality education that prepares them well for future success. This is due to the dedication of the staff and governors who are proud to be part of the school and our strong partnership with the families of our community. Like any report there are areas we will continue to address. One of these is attendance for some groups of children. We will be in contact with some families to see how we can support them further over the coming weeks and months.
In the recent Governor survey there were some comments relating to behaviour consequences. We recognise how frustrating this can be and we ask that you look at the behaviour policy on the school website if you are ever unsure. If you still have questions then please speak to your child's class teacher, Mrs Lilley or Mr Luck. If you ever have a concern to raise then please do contact the school. Please see the website – Policies – Complaints and concerns procedures (www.thorngrove.herts.sch.uk/information/policies)
Don’t forget that it is an Occasional Day on Friday (29th November) so school is closed.
We look forward to seeing as many of you next week for Christmas Craft Day next Tuesday (3rd December). Please let your child's class teacher or the office know if are planning on joining us. The children will be making decorations for our school Christmas tree. It is always lots of fun and it's always great to have parents/carers in helping out. Children can wear a Christmas jumper too but it is not non-uniform day.
The Post Box for Christmas cards will be available for the children in the Vestibule from Tuesday (3rd December) next week. If children write cards to their friends (names and year groups on the envelope) and classmates, they can post them. The cards will then be sorted each day and delivered to the classrooms.
Thank you for the responses to our survey about the Newsletter. There is still time to contribute via this link: https://forms.gle/hwFvpsAS1zTE9Ru6A
There are 2 spaces left on the Christmas Wreath Workshop this Thursday. Please speak to Elspeth Medlock or the school office if you would like to attend.
This week, the Coram Life Education & SCARF team will be visiting our school with their pop-up, inflatable classroom – LifeSpace! The workshops are fun, interactive and age-appropriate and help children to understand the importance of physical and emotional health; they learn vital life-skills that are also known to help their overall achievement.
Early Years and Key Stage 1: children learn about keeping their bodies healthy, managing feelings, being a good friend and the safe use of medicines.
Key Stage 2: children explore emotional needs, choices that can affect health and wellbeing, qualities of friendship and how to cope with bullying the influence of friends. They also consider the effects and risks with the use of drugs, including medicines, alcohol and tobacco as well as an understanding of how few people in their age group actually use non-medical drugs – this is social norms education.
Coram will be holding a WORKSHOP FOR COMMUNITY ADULTS (parents, carers, etc) from 15:10-15:25 on Monday, 25th November. This is a chance for you to experience and discuss some key elements of the programmes that the children will take part in during the visit. You must sign up for this session at the school office. If you can have younger children or babies looked after for the time, that is best, but don’t let childcare concerns stop you coming – little ones are welcome.
If you are not able to come to the workshop, there will be a Meet the Educator drop-in session at 8:40-9:05 on Tuesday, 26th November. Pop in to say hello and speak to the Educator, have a look around LifeSpace and you might even meet Harold the Giraffe if he’s not too busy with his homework! You can come to the drop-in with children, but we ask that children not come on their own during this time.

Winter Reads is a series of exciting reading challenges and events for all ages, taking place across Hertfordshire libraries until the end of January.
They have created a separate challenge for adults and children. You can either work through the challenges we set, or change them to suit you.
Here’s how it works:
Pick up your challenge materials from Bishops Stortfor's library. Adults will get a Winter Reads bookmark and children receive a Winter Reads challenge card.
Complete and record your challenges on your bookmark or challenge card.
Return to your local library to get a stamp for each completed challenge.
Once you've finished 6 challenges you’ll be entered into our prize draw to win an iPad (plus other fantastic runners-up prizes).
As well as being a great way to explore new books, authors and genres, Winter Reads is a brilliant opportunity to read together as a family or with friends.
If you have any children's books you no longer need please share the joy of reading by donating them to us.
Please place in them in the yellow bin by the school entrance or speak to Mrs Lilley
