Dear Parents/Carers,
Our Year 6 children had a great time at Manor Adventure last week. Thank you to Miss Brett, Mrs Camp and Miss Monk for taking the children and making sure the children had a unforgettable week.
Our new school library will be installed this week. We are looking forward to welcome parents to come and have a look after school soon. The Reading Ambassadors will then organise a breakfast Reading Cafe once it's up and running.
The children were visited by Stortford Wind today. They performed for the children and talked to them about the instruments they are playing. Thank you to all the members who gave up their time to share their wonderful music.
The next PTA event will be the school Disco on Friday 17th October. Please look out for more information over the coming weeks. If you want to get involved, find out more and join our wonderful PTA then speak to Mr Luck or email PTA@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk.
Every Friday we have Heather Chapman (school counsellor) come in to school. She speaks to children in Key Stage 2 who express they wish to share any worries or concerns. If your child is in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6 and you do not wish them to speak to Heather then please let us know.
Sheryl Chivers has been employed at Thorn Grove Primary School for 30 years, she started in 1995. As a dedicated Midday Supervisor Leader, who helps manage a team of 5 caring staff members. Together, they ensure the students have a joyful and safe lunchtime experience, bringing smiles to many faces every day! Please join us in giving a big cheer to Sheryl for her unwavering commitment and hard work over the years. We couldn't do without her!
Did you know? At primary school, children who attend school nearly every day in Year 6 (95-100% attendance) are 30% more likely to reach the expected standard in reading, writing and maths compared to similar pupils who attend 90-95% of the time.

We will be taking part in this year's 500 Words competition, the UK's largest writing competition. There are two age categories: 5-7 and 8-11 year-olds and spelling, punctuation and grammar are not marked - as has always been the case for 500 Words, it's all about our writers' brilliant creativity!
The children will watch this week's live lesson to discover more about this great competition and should speak to their teacher or Mrs Lilley if they would like to take part.

Thank you for supporting the PTA fundraising events. The library would not be possible without the work of our PTA. If you would like to know more about being involved, please email Sarah at pta@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk
Snack-tember is a month-long initiative by the British Nutrition Foundation aimed at promoting healthier snacking habits among children. The initiative encourages us to explore our current snacking choices, try new healthier snacks, and make our own healthy snacks. More information and snack ideas can be found at Attack the Snack - Simply Veg
We would like to support this campaign and suggest that children bring a piece of fresh fruit or vegetable to school for snack at least twice a week – Key Stage 1 children receive free fruit or vegetables each day.
Using the food labelling code is a helpful way to see at a glance if a snack has high, medium, or low amounts of fat, saturated fat, sugars, and salt: red means high, amber means medium, and green means low. In short, the more green(s), the healthier the choice.
