Dear Parents and Carers,
Due to the adverse weather we would like children to have a change of footwear when on the playground. In KS1 and Year 3 the children already have wellies so there is no need for any other footwear to be brought in. However, for Years 4, 5 and 6 please send some footwear that can be kept in school in a bag on their peg. This could be trainers, wellies or outdoor shoes for the playground. If for any reason this proves problematic then please speak to the office or the child's teacher.
An increasing number of children are talking about online games they are playing at home. Can we ask that you are vigilant about anything your child is viewing online. The content of these games is not suitable for children. Fortnite has a PEGI rating of 12, PEGI have said this is due to the: 'frequent scenes of mild violence. It is not suitable for persons under 12 years of age'.
If anyone has any spare chess boards that they would like to donate to the school please let the office know. We have some children interested in taking part in a chess club and it would be great to have an opportunity for this to happen.
Last week some children in Years 5 and 6 represented the school in the Sportshall Athletics competitions against other local schools. Their effort, attitudes and behaviour were excellent.
Before half term we will be sending out information on how well your child is getting on at school. This will be snapshot of where your child is with their learning now. This will help you stay on top of your child's progress and give opportunities to work on any area that they are not as secure in. We will also be sharing dates and times for parent consultations over the coming weeks. These meetings will take place towards the end of the Spring Term, week beginning Monday 24th March. There will be an option for either a face-to-face or a remote meeting.

Poetry Week 17th-21st March
During this week the whole school will be celebrating poetry. Children will have the chance to write, perform and immerse themselves in the world of poetry. The week will ignite creativity, build confidence and foster an appreciation of language across all year groups. Parents will be invited into school during the week and more information will be sent by class teachers.
If you would like to recite a poem or be actively involved in this celebration please email Mrs Lilley (jlilley@thorngrove.herts.sch.uk)
KS2 Poetry by Heart National Competition: In addition to the celebration, Children from years 3-6 will also have the chance to take part in the Poetry By Heart National Competition. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to memorize and perform a poem(s) of their choice, competing on a national level. Click here for more information on the competition.
