Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to our wonderful PTA for the fabulous Thornfest. Once again, they did a fantastic job and on behalf of the staff and children, we would like to express our thanks and gratitude for organising such a great event. We are so lucky, that the team are dedicated and selfless to ensure everyone has the best time. If you do know someone who helped, please reach out and thank them, they would really appreciate this. Without the PTA there would be no events for the children to enjoy. Mr Luck has now dried off. He hopes the children enjoyed the opportunity to throw wet sponges at him.! It was great to see so many of you attend supporting the PTA in raising funds for the children in school.
Our year 6’s were amazing last week as they completed their KS2 SATs. Everyone at school was really proud of them as they gave their best in every test.
Our whole school attendance at the moment is 94.4%. The breakdown for each class is:
Reception 92.9%
Year 1 96.2%
Year 2 94.9%
Year 3 93%
Year 4 94.4%
Year 5 93.8%
Year 6 96.4%
If your child's attendance is less than 90% then this is classed as persistent absence.
Just a reminder that next week is half term. The children finish at normal time on Friday this week. The children return on Tuesday 3rd June as the Monday (2nd June) is an INSET day.
When we return on the Tuesday we will be trialling a vehicle free zone in Thorn Grove during school drop-off and pick-up times to improve safety and reduce congestion. We ask that no parent drives into the road leading to the school entrance. It would be great if all parents could work with us.

Walk to School Week
This week is Herts Walk to School Week.
We all know the health benefits of walking so please help us this week to reduce congestion by supporting children in being more active and help reduce lower carbon emissions during this Walk to School Week.
We would like to encourage all our pupils to try and walk, cycle or scoot to school during this week. If it’s not possible to walk all the way, then it would be great if you could park 10 minutes away from school and walk or scoot the last part of your journey.
As you may be aware, the traffic congestion on Thorn Grove during school drop-off and pick-up times has been an ongoing challenge. In an effort to improve safety and reduce congestion, we are looking to trial a vehicle-free zone on Thorn Grove during peak school hours, starting in June when we return after half term. This initiative aims to create a safer environment for our pupils while also alleviating the parking and traffic issues in the area.
We understand that this change may impact some of you whilst you drop your child(ren) off, and we welcome any feedback or concerns you may have. If you have any objections or would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We will share more information about this over the coming weeks. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work towards a safer and more accessible community for everyone.
We believe that all parents, carers and trusted adults should be empowered with all the information needed to have informed and age-appropriate conversations about online safety with children. For this reason, we take part in National Online Safety’s ‘Wake Up Wednesday’ campaign. Each Wednesday, National Online Safety produce practical, easy to follow guides which focus on specific risks that adults should be aware of. These can be found at x.com/wake_up_weds and https://empli.fi/nationalonlinesafety/
This is a happy and in places comical poem in praise of trees. Read it aloud and notice all the positive features that trees are praised for.
The birds that live in this poem’s trees build their nests in the crooks of branches. These crooks are bends or curves in the branches, the sort of places where a nest might be more cosy and secure than on a flat branch.
Crook is a very old word which arrived in the UK with the Vikings.
